Perfection. We all strive for it, but what happens when the desire to be perfect consumes you? What happens when the need to bury your mistakes blinds you?
Melanie Crane has always been the perfect daughter, friend, student – she’s been perfect at everything, in fact. But when she lets her insecurities, the ones that she keeps hidden from everyone, get the best of her, she falters in her pursuit of perfection. Melanie crumples under the pressure and buries her pain. Numbed by sadness and guilt, she is determined never to let anyone find out how broken she really is.
Bryan Mahoney may appear to have everything in order. He’s charming, witty and completely swoon-worthy. In short, Bryan has life all figured out, but appearances can be deceiving. When the landscape of Bryan’s family changes in an instant, he’s left to pick up the pieces.
Not all bruises leave a mark. Now, weary and afraid, Melanie and Bryan must find a way to let love heal their broken and jaded hearts.

I must state I did not read the first two books in this series so I had no idea what to expect. Upon reading the prologue I thought the book would be about a woman losing her husband and how her life was altered by his sudden death. The story does touch base with her, but much later in her life. I was surprised the story dealt with her unborn daughter entering college and becoming a woman and how she handles her first relationship. Yes this is Melanie’s story for those of you who do follow the series. All of the old friends from the first two books are all here. I will have to go back and catch up on them.
While reading I had the strong recollections of young love. We all have felt the giddiness and self-consciousness that go along with the start of a new relationship. If only we all had that sweet boy that made us feel as special as Bryan does for Melanie.
The story does go back and forth between their past and present. Make sure to read the chapter headings. The feelings she portrays are what any woman has felt at some time in her life. The story she weaves builds up to some great suspense to see what Bryan has to tell Melanie and when she will reveal her secrets. Through her relationship with Bryan she gains herself. But to get there she must deal with hurt and heartache. Somehow we do end with a Happily ever After.
Ms. Collins takes her time writing the love scenes and it is much appreciated. Her attention to detail is well thought out. The story moves along at a nice pace. While the story deals with a young couple it is definitely not rated for the under 17 crowd. This book brings back a lot of memories of first loves and crushes and all the feelings that go along with them.
A strong 4 out of 5 star review.
I’ve always been an avid reader. Majoring in English Literature was a no brainer. Becoming a teacher and instilling my love for reading into my students was also a no brainer. I’ve spent the last ten years teaching and I’ve loved (mostly) every minute of it. When I was home on maternity leave for my third son, I discovered a new genre that sparked my creativity. My passion for writing sprang from my love of reading and once I knew I had a story to tell, I couldn’t wait to get it out there. I only hope that my readers enjoy reading my story as much as I enjoyed writing it.
