Finally, I opened my eyes, lifted my fork and started to pick at the pancakes again.

“Marisa, this is…”

I held up a finger. “Shh! Stop interrupting.”

“You’re not saying anything!” Sebastian beamed even as he tried to sound exasperated.

Shifting in my chair, I turned to face him. “I’m thinking.”

Leaning forward, he murmured, “While you’re thinking, can we talk about you?”

I stiffened then shook my head. “I never talk about myself.” From the corner of my eye, I watched for a reaction.

Apparently, he had decided to ignore me, since he continued to speak. “Your father says you’re talented. You can fix anything. Is this true?”

Licking my lips, my head tilted as I studied him. “I’m opening a shop called Second Chances. What do you think?”

“Good.” He nodded then started to tug on his lower lip.

Fascinated, I watched for a moment before interrupting. “What are you thinking?”

“The insurance company will probably cut me a check today to get started on repairs and replacing things around here. I want to hire you to fix as much of what’s broken as possible.” With a hesitant smile, he asked, “What do you think?”

Silently, with narrowed eyes, I considered his offer. “I have to get ready to open my store.”

“I understand that, but you must also need money.” I watched as his jaw tightened. This was a man who didn’t like being refused.

“Yes, I do, but I also need time and there’s only so much of that.” I was determined to stick to my plan. “I still have to go find more pieces to work on…”

Sebastian leaned on the arm of the chair. “What do you need?”

With a slight grin, I responded. “I’ll know it when I see it.”

“Do I have the field trip for you.” He crossed his arms over his chest for a moment as if deep in thought. “So, if I can find you more pieces, and pay you to repair stuff around here, will you do it?”

My lips pursed as prepared to blurt out what troubled me most. “Why would you do this for me?” Determined to get an answer, I pushed my chair back from the table. “My father destroyed your gallery. You could’ve thrown him in jail, but you’re obviously paying for a program at a treatment facility instead. As if that wasn’t enough, you want to hire me to do work and supply me with pieces for my shop.” Shifting to face him, I leaned forward and balanced my arms on my thighs. “What do you want, Sebastian? People don’t just do all this and expect to get nothing in return. You could buy all new furniture. You don’t really need me. Talk to me. And don’t bother lying to me because I’ll know.”

Now it was all out in the open. I felt better, but the longer he made me wait in silence, the more my stomach twisted in turmoil. Apparently, I wasn’t suffering alone. Staring at him, I could see the sweat breaking out in tiny droplets over his brow. He tried to act all cool, but Sebastian was drying his hands on his pants and probably trying to decide what to say. My eyes honed in on his little tells. It had been a guess, but I knew I was right. He wanted something. Judging by his reaction, it had to be big.

“Well.” Sebastian swallowed hard. He started to talk once more, but instead hesitated and took an enormous swig of his hot chocolate. He wiped his mouth and dabbed at his brow. Through it all, I waited. Finally he sighed and his shoulders sank. “I…I want you to marry me.”

My breath caught when he stood behind me to look over my shoulder. We weren’t touching, but my skin broke out in goosebumps and my body ached for contact with his. Heat swirled in my stomach at the thought. How easy would it be to lean back against that awesome chest and have those killer arms hug me? I gripped the table to keep myself from doing anything stupid.

“Beautiful,” he said softly.

“Cool.” I shined the enlarger on the paper and picked up the photo after I turned it off. Ethan was still behind me, and I swallowed as I turned around. Looking at him in this sexy orange lighting was really—

A quiet popping noise invaded our silent room, and the orange light went out, leaving us in darkness. I flinched in surprise, brushing against Ethan. He put his hands on my arms. "The light burned out."

I laughed, trying to distract myself from my tingly arms. "Yeah, Captain Obvious. I can tell."

He laughed softly. "I have another one, I'll go change it. We just have to..." His grip tightened, and he drew me closer to him as he turned me so we switched places. One hand moved off my arm and to my back as his voice dropped. "Trade places. Because it’s on the shelf.”

"Right," I whispered. When he moved us, I dropped the paper, but I really couldn’t have cared less now that his arms were around me. Without thinking, I reached out and held my breath when my fingers brushed against smooth skin. I trailed to the side and found his hair. Moving along the side of his face, I stopped right before his chin and hesitated. Touching him was so ballsey. He might not want me doing this.

When I stopped, he let out a soft groan, and his fingers moved under the hem of my shirt, barely grazing the skin of my lower back. I took a shaky breath and raised my other hand, tracing the planes of his face, the one line across his forehead, the rise and fall of his glasses, the bridge of his nose, and the indent in his chin, so slight it was barely noticeable. His thin top lip. His full bottom one. Over and over again, and his breaths came out deep as his fingers kept moving lightly against my bare skin.

I whimpered as he put his other hand on the side of my face. Fucking whimpered.

“I like this,” he whispered as his fingers followed my eyebrows, over the piercing and down toward my cheek.

I kept tracing his lips as he touched me, all too aware of the strong ache between my legs. “Me too,” I breathed.

My pulse echoed in my head as his hand rested under my chin with his thumb on my lip ring. Neither one of us moved.

I couldn’t fucking handle it anymore. “Ethan?”

“Yes?” his soft voice replied.

“Kiss me already.”

SARAH'S 4.5 REVIEW:

I absolutely love everything that K.A. Tucker writes. I fell in love with her writing when I read Ten Tiny Breaths a few years ago. Her books always take you on an emotional rollercoaster and I love it. Becoming Rain is the story of Luke Boone who we first meet in Burying Water. I recommend reading Burying Water first as it gives a look into the lives of some of the characters we see in Becoming Rain. "Guilt and happiness go to war inside of me as I fall. I wonder which one will win."  Luke Boone works for his uncle Rust at his garage and wants to learn more about his uncle's side job. He isn't sure what it all involves but he loves the money, the women and the fancy cars. He has had to work his way up in the business and when Rust finally lets him Luke is beyond excited. His world though is quickly turned upside down when a beautiful girl named Rain comes to the shop to get her car fixed. Will Luke let Rain into his world or will he keep her away so she doesn't get involved in his sketchy life? Clara Bertelli (AKA Rain Martinez) is a twenty six year old girl who works as an undercover agent for the FBI. She has been sent to Portland to help expose a car theft ring. Her target is the very sexy Luke Boone. She must figure out a way into his world without revealing her true identity. The relationship between Luke and Rain starts out pretty slow but once everything is in place it picks up pretty quickly. The last thing Rain should be doing is falling for the target  but when she is with Luke she see a different side of him. What will happen when the lines begin to blur? Will Rain be able to stay away from Luke and get her job done? Will she be able to save Luke from a life he doesn't know he is getting himself involved in? I loved the connection between Luke and Rain. I felt bad for Rain as she had to decide between her job and a relationship with Luke. It was nice to catch up with Jesse and Alex. I wish we would have gotten a look further into the future of Luke and Rain. I highly recommend this book and can't wait to see what K.A. is working on next.

 SHANNON'S 4 STAR REVIEW:

We first meet Luke Boone in Burying Water as Jesse's best friend and coworker. Luke works for his Uncle Rust who's an unsavory character and also begins to start fencing stolen cars for him. Unfortunately, Luke's made some bad decisions and things may start getting a little more hairy, unbeknownst to him.

Clara who's known as Rain begins to infiltrate Luke's life. She's working undercover trying make a big career move. She tries her hardest to get Luke to fall for her and give away any secrets he may be in on. Luke's not the romantic fall in love at first sight kind of guy so it takes her longer than she expected and she begins to make some bad decisions.

Even though you kind of think you how the story's going to play out there's suspense and intrigue there and a few curveballs. You have to figure out who's playing who and who's really deceiving the other.

While I gave Becoming Rain 4 stars I don't feel as strongly for it as I did Burying Water. It's nothing KA Tucker did, it's just that for me, the original book one tends to hold my heart.

I scanned the room as I walked through the door. Checked my watch, four minutes after ten. No sign of Carter yet. I knew the restaurant shut down at nine-thirty that night. He probably wasn't done closing the kitchen down. I made my way over to an empty barstool and sat down.

“Hey, Hannah!” Myles, my favorite bartender, shouted over the music coming from the in-house deejay. “What can I getcha?”

“Hi, Myles,” I smiled. “I'll think I'll have a rum and diet tonight.”

He quickly went to work mixing up my drink. Myles was probably the nicest guy who worked at the hotel. He was average height and build. His hipster style suited him so well. Tonight he was wearing a pair of straight-legged black jeans, a pair of black converse tennis shoes, a vintage AC/DC T-shirt with his signature thick-framed black glasses. His thick, brown hair was styled in his just-got-out-of-bed way, which could be described as perfected chaos. He placed my drink down in front of me and started wiping down the bar with the towel he had tossed over his shoulder. “Want me to run this on your tab?”

Before I could answer, a twenty-dollar bill appeared next to I drink. “I've got it.”

I assumed it was Carter, but was surprised when I looked over my shoulder to see Trent standing there.

“Sure thing, Mr. Crawford.” Myles took the cash and made his way towards the cash register.

“I can buy my own drink,” I interjected, placing my clutch on the top of the bar. “Here Myles,” I started to hand him my own twenty-dollar bill, when Trent held up his hand.

“I know you that you can afford your own drinks, Hannah,” he said waving Myles off. “Keep the change. And call me Trent,” he said, as they exchanged courteous nods. He turned his attention back to me. “Consider this a peace offering.” He clinked his beer bottle against my glass.

“It's going to take more than just a drink,” I scoffed, pulling my glass to my lips. After the way he'd embarrassed me in front of the board, he could have shown up with a truck load of Bacardi and I still would have been pissed.

“Sorry for being a dick today. That was not at all the way I wanted you to find out that I was interested in running the hotel.”

“It was a pretty shitty way for me to find out. You could have said something last night.”

“I know,” he agreed. “It's just...my family has a really complicated way of doing things.”

“I'm well aware,” I reassured him. I may have been young when the drama with Damien happened, but I'd heard enough over the years that ‘easy’ and ‘breezy’ were not words that were often associated with the Crawford name. “What I'd really like to know is why you have a sudden interest in running this hotel at all? Emily was taken 5 years ago by Marco and lived her life as a Collection Piece. She was put on display and sold to the highest bidder. She was the shell of the person she was prior. No joy, no happiness, no love. When her brother, Jake, and boyfriend, Kanye, tracked her down and rescued her and Lily in You Loved Me at My Darkest she wasn't sure what would happen when she got home. Sure she expected tears, pain, and hurt but what she got wasn't what she expected.

Kanye had never given up on her. For four years he gave up his life in hopes of finding hers. He's loved her as long as he's known her and his life wasn't worth living without her. She was his everything and he told her repeatedly he'd never give up and he'd never quit fighting for them.

"I'm going to give you time and space. But I'm warning you now, Emmy; you are mine. I will be watching and waiting. I won't lose you again. I will fight for you and if giving you space right now is fighting for you, then that is what I will do. Just know when I fell the time is ready, I'm coming for you, for us."

The nightmare continues for Emily. The pain and the hurt, they rise to the surface and suffocate her. She sees a therapist, takes up photography - she wants to know how others smile through the pain, and she unfortunately finds another way to deal with her pain. Until Kanye catches her. At this point they have a minor breakthrough.  She sees how much her hurt is hurting him. He feels the same pain and fear she feels.

As a danger from her past gets close to finding Emily what will she do? Will she retreat into her head? What will Kanye do? Will he let her go again because she thinks that's what's best or will he continue to fight for her, for them?

This is the second book in the You Loved Me Series, book 3, You Loved Me at My Ugliest comes out mid 2015. I cannot wait to see what else Evie has in store for these characters. They're tested, pushed, pulled, and tried. I hope you all are as enraptured as I am in this series.

Excerpt

 Found, saved, released… freed.

Should I have a smile on my face? I
should be happy, right? I’m going home. I’m going to see my family and I’m
going to be safe from now on. No more hands touching me. No more bruises to
watch fade away from my skin.

But I’m broken, ruined, and worthless.
What can I offer them? I’m tainted. Darkness has touched me more times than I
can wrap my mind around.

This suburban family doesn’t know what
true evil is. I’ve laid beside the devil countless times and he’s turned me
black. Inside and out.

The world around me grows louder and I
come out of my thoughts, staring at the ground. I turn my head to look for
Kanye, who is standing behind me. We just stepped off the plane that brought me
home. He’s watching me, again. Each time I glimpse a look at him, my breath
catches. He hasn’t changed at all in the last five years. Still the most
handsome man I’ve ever laid eyes on. His wild, short blond hair and deep blue
eyes that tell me he’s so much more than just a pretty face; his thoughts are
always deep and meaningful. His body is still fit and muscular. My head still
only comes up to his eye level.

Shouts distract me from my examination.
I look around and find my parents sprinting toward me. Across the airstrip not
listening to any of the men screaming behind them to stop. My mother drops her
handbag, items spilling from it; however, she doesn’t stop to pick it up.

Time slows for just a moment as I watch
my parents. My mother’s short brown hair whips in the air. Her eyes wide with
tears falling. I can see one of the teardrops hit her red shirt, and there it
sits, a lone wet tear, a teardrop for me.

My father’s cheeks are puffing in and
out heavily. His arms pumping hard, I watch as each vein pops up as he pulls
and pushes his arms backwards and forwards.

I tilt my head to the side. They’re
running toward me, to embrace me. To comfort me? How long will it take them to
realize their Emily is gone. How long until they realize I’m repulsive. And I
will lose them, all over again.

I’m scared of their touch. Light,
loving, forgiving.

Oomph! They’ve crashed into me
and time sets back to present and harsh reality.

My dad picks me up, circles his arms
around my body, and cries into my neck. My mother hugs me from behind. I feel
her tears soaking through my shirt.

I’m scared. My chest feels heavy. My
heart begins to swell. It expands and the ice around my heart starts cracking,
breaking off in tiny pieces.

My mother’s sobs turn into screams at my
back and larger pieces of ice break off. I’m left with just a swollen heart,
who just let everything in. Pain, suffering, torment, relief, love. I can feel
it all and it’s too much. But I can’t turn it off.

My chest starts heaving, but my mouth
refuses to open and let out the cries that are now clawing at my lips to let
them have a voice. A voice… they’ve never had a voice. Someone who cared what
they cried, someone who would fix the hurt they were feeling.

It’s happening. My body melts into my
father’s. My eyes sting and blur. Slowly, I open my mouth and there they are.
The cries. They’ve gone ignored and unwanted for so long. They are mine. My
cries of pain, torment and my relief.

My father jolts at the agonizing sound
that’s ripped from my throat. My mother stands back and repeats my name on a
whisper.

Hands wrap around me from behind and I
know whose they are. The one person who at this moment is going to send me over
the edge. Kanye.

I fall into him, his warmth, and strong
arms. We collapse to the ground and he holds me to him. My head to his neck and
his hand under my knees.

Kanye repeats on a whisper while rocking
us on the ground, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”

I continue to let my precious cries go,
while the man I love and the man I cried out for so often apologizes for the
pain he didn’t inflict. Pain I can see he has inflicted on himself.

I’m letting my pain go and sharing it
with the world. Now everyone around me knows just how much agony I’m in. And
they’re listening; they will try to help. They can’t. But at least someone
cares. That’s all I ever wanted.
