Excerpt
I was lost in thought when my phone started to vibrate. You could hear the loud vibrations as it rattled in my hand. "Crap," I nearly jumped out of my skin. It was a text from Moon. I don't know if I opened it because it was just habit, or if it was because I wanted to see what he had to say. Either way, I may regret the decision.
I read the message twice before another one followed quickly behind it.
Moon- I gotta go help momma now, but I am not giving up on you. Know that when I look at the stars tonight I will think of you. You have to come back to me Shine. I need you.
The tears flowed freely from my eyes. I swear, that damn boy. Geez, I love him so much that it hurts.
Jamie says...
5 crazy outrageous stars! This story tore me to pieces! I cried so many times that I wanted to chuck the kindle at one point. Be aware there is a very graphic scene that sets the mold for this book. I was sucked into this story so much that I read it in about 3-4 hours which is a record for me! Even though it was a rough read in parts this author truly made you feel so many emotions when reading this. Sadness did play a big role in this book, but you also get some humor, regret, angst, grief just so many to list.
The main characters in this book are Shine and Moon (aka Ryker), Shine of course gave him his nickname because she told him when they were kids that his head was as big as a moon. They have known each other since they were kids and the story takes place in there senior year in high school. Even though this is in a high school scene it is so much more than a young love story believe me! They are best friends who both secretly love each other but neither thinks the other feels the same way even though everyone around them can see how they feel for one another.
One day changes everything! Moon is going to tell Shine how he feels and nothing will get in his way, so he thinks! The same day Shine has the worst day of her life by the hands of someone she never would have thought would hurt her and she just can't be around anyone that is close to this awful person and that includes Moon. Moon doesn't know what to do has no idea why Shine wants nothing to do with him. Will Shine get past this tragedy or will it take her life completely away??? Moon has a tragedy of his own and doesn't realize that this tragedy and Shine's tragedy are some how intertwined with one another. Can there love last even though Shine can't look him in the eyes any longer or bare for anyone to touch her again??? Does a new man help Shine find her way so that she can learn to share her secret and let Moon back in?? You will have to pick this book up and find out! Believe it or not but this book does have an HEA, thank goodness because after every tragedy in this book you will be truly heart broken and need the HEA! Thanks for a great emotional story and I hope to see more from this author. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
