MICHELLE'S 5 STAR REVIEW:

A Freaking Fantastic and Awesome ride!!

Wow.  Just, wow.  This is the first book that I have read from Jessica Park, but it sure won't be my last!  This book will take you for a ride and give you a head trip like no other!  It was fabulously written and at times had me wondering if I was the one loosing my mind.  The characters are unique and so complex that you can't help but connect with them, and I'm sure you will fall in love with sexy sweet Sam Bishop.

Both Stella and Sam have a past that they seem to not be able to escape, but Stella does just that.   They met years ago when Stella's father and sister were in a car accident.  She was sitting in the stairwell all by herself, hating what her mother had just said to her, and looking at her feet that were bleeding from wearing shoes that were 2 sizes to small for her. In walks Sam Bishop, he easily strikes up a conversation with her and takes it upon himself to go get bandages for her feet.  He even comes back with a pair of Wonder Woman (yep, complete with a cape too) socks  and cleans and bandages her feet.

She is in awe of this sweet cute boy, who was in Chicago visiting from Maine, that took the time to talk to her and try to make her feel better. Each feel a connection that they can't quite understand, and when Stella is outside in the blizzard waiting for her mom to get the car, Sam comes outside and makes his way to her.  She instantly, and without thinking, runs right into his arms, like she had done it a thousand times. And they kiss.  Then she leaves.

Something happened the night of the accident, she overheard Amy and her father talking, but she didn't understand what it was about, it didn't make any sense to her.  Her father took off after the accident, without so much as a word to anyone. And Amy, who was once an honor student, vice-president of her senior class and a star lacrosse player is now nothing more than a mean drug addict who Stella believes is suicidal.

Stella's mother is mean and always making awful comments to Stella, she is literaly trying to make Stella loose her mind.  Calling her shirt purple, when Stella knows its green...or at least she thinks its green. She is pretty sure its green...now, she isn't sure if it is really green or if its purple.  She is not sure if she likes what she eats, seems her mother always tells her what she does and doesn't like.

Excerpt:
--If I'm lucky, I'll just disappear. And if I'm really lucky, maybe I'll disappear far enough that I'll find myself in a world where I am happy.  Where my father did not take off in the middle of the f*cking night and leave me with a screwed-up mother and a sister who went from Angel to demon.  Luck, however, does not seem to be my friend.
My thoughts shut down, and a fuzzy haze takes over. I like this space because time does not exist.  My body does not exist. Most importantly, I do not exist. Nothingness is my salvation. Maybe I'm going crazy, but I don't much care right now because this is at least a degree of peace.

When Stella finds Amy at her apartment, in what looks like a drug overdose and a hand gun under her bed, she calls the ambulance and has her sister taken to the hospital.  But at the hospital, they find no drugs in her system. Stella doesn't understand, she found all kinds of pills and stuff at Amy's apartment.  For the first time since they were little, Amy shows the kind loving sister that Stella remembers.  She tells her she needs to leave, to go away and never look back. Get away from their mother, get away from everything and start over fresh. To go find her good.  And, so she does.

Excerpt:
-My mother has so thoroughly warped my sense of reality, retelling facts and stories, insisting on my stupidity and forgetfulness, and now I have become someone who is trapped, dysfunctionally dependent on a shell of a family. I cannot continue like this, or I'm going to finally break until what's left of my psyche shatters into smithereens. I don't want that to happen. I want to thrive.
-I turn, and I run.
-I am going to save myself.

So she goes home and packs some of her things and gets into her car.  She only has one place on her mind, Maine.  To a boy who made her feel safe, to the boy who had helped her during one of her dark moments. She is going to find Sam Bishop.

When she finally meets up with Sam, it is not the reunion she had hoped for.  She knows that he would not be the same boy who cleaned up the wounds on her feet when they were teenagers. He is now a man. A man that is haunted by something.  A man that has pain and secrets.

But these two broken people seem to drawn to each other, in a way they can't explain.  He doesn't run when he hears the awful things that had happened to Stella, he doesn't make her think she is crazy.  And when Stella learns his secret, she doesn't leave him like he thought he would.  And so begins a story of love and healing.

Excerpt - Sam
-"For reasons I can't begin to understand, I am whole again with you. After everything, I get to feel whole."

I'll end my review there, I don't want to give any more away of this amazing story, you will just have to read it for yourself to experience the 'trip' fully.  I'm sure you'll love it just as much as I did, especially if you love a little paranormal element with your romance. And Sam Bishop, he is one sexy sweet guy I'm sure you will just adore, even once you find out all his secrets.
