Being a HUGE Laura Kaye fan, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. I love to read about Military men, past or present. I mean what is not to like? No disappointment when it comes to sexy soldiers & Shane McCallan is no exception. In perfect Laura Kaye fashion, this book has the perfect amount of heartache, romance, & moments you are just speechless. I was nervous and on the edge of my seat through this book. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. Shocked, confused, mad, nervous, and disappointed were all my emotions during this book.
Shane & Crystal meet up for the first time in the first book. In this book we learn the hows & whys of why Crystal is working in Confessions & her attachment to the Church organizations.
Shane is loving, caring & straight up sexy. This book goes deeper into why Shane & Nick have issues & how they plan to fix them. Sexy, smooth talking Shane meets his match when it comes to the closed off, blend in with the crowd Crystal. Crystal, is beautiful, & extremely protective of her younger sister. She would literally lay her life on the line for Jenna. When push comes to shove Crystal turns to Shane in hopes he can help her. Once, again the guys at Hard Ink find themselves putting their lives, and for some their hearts on the line to protect the ones they love and care about.
Thankfully, things are fully explained more in detail in this book. You learn a lot about all the guys. This book gets a 3.5 star review from me.

Hard as You Can is the second novel in Laura Kaye’s Hard Ink Series and another dose of deliciously sexy former Special Forces soldiers you’ll swoon hard over.
While on a mission to a dance club, Shane McCallan crosses paths with Crystal Dean. There’s an instant spark between these two strangers. She’s drawn to the mystery and charm that surrounds him (and of course his delectable exterior) and he sees something familiar in her that a loved one he lost had so long ago. Determined to save the girl and complete his mission, Shane works to get close to Crystal for insight and to reveal those secrets she’s fought hard to keep concealed.
I loved the chemistry between the couple. There’s an undeniable passion and spark that can only be ignored for so long before things finally ignite. Despite her fears and predicament at the club, she can’t help but be drawn to Shane. Even though Crystal should be off limits in order to keep his mission in tact, Shane can’t help but lose himself in her. The steam is off the charts and this couple heats up the pages throughout the novel.
Romance aside, this story was full of twists and an overall thriller. Suspense surfaced around each corner and that kept me guessing where the plot would go next. There’s nothing boring or tame about this novel. Despite being a part of a series, I felt like this story could be read as a standalone and be mostly understood. However, if you don’t want to be left making a few assumptions I highly recommend reading Hard as It Gets first. Besides, why read one novel about a delicious ex-soldier when you could read two?
