***This novel contains graphic sexual content and harsh language. It is only appropriate for adult readers age 18+.

Have you ever been so angry that hitting things felt good? Or so numb that you actually felt high? The past few years have been like that for me. Traveling between fury and indifference with no stops in between.

Some people hate me for it, while others are scared of me. But none of them can hurt me, because I don't care about anything or anyone.

Except Tatum.

I love her so much that I hate her. We used to be friends, but I found out that I couldn't trust her or anyone else.

So I hurt her. I pushed her away.

But I still need her. The sight of her centers me, and I can pool all of my anger into her. Engaging her, challenging her, bullying her...they are my food, my air, and the last part of me that feels anything human.

But she left. She went to France for a year, and came back a different girl.

Now, when I push, she pushes back.

Until You

Wow. I don’t even know where to start with this review. Maybe the beginning?

Mid-June, right before my birthday, I downloaded a free book called “Bully.” Something I do all the time, but this one sounded right up my alley—Mature YA, girl and boy rivalry. Perfect. Before I had a chance to read it, my friend sent me a message, highly recommending it, saying she knew I would really like it.

She was wrong.

I fucking loved it!

I read it on my birthday, in one sitting. Sure, I was drunk but who cares. The shit was so good I couldn’t put it down. It had all my favorite things! It was the perfect birthday present, thank you, Ms Douglas. Hot bad boy—check...angst—check, check…sexual tension—check, check, check. One aspect I wasn’t prepared for, though, was the badass heroine.

Yeah, that’s right. Rarely do you find a book where the main chick is someone who doesn’t make you want to slap her about the neck and face, knock some sense into her. Not Tate, though. She may have done her best to avoid Jared’s antics in the past, but in “Bully” she proved she was done with all of that, and I loved her feistiness and go-fuck-yourself attitude. And Jared was just such a jerk, albeit an incredibly hot one, and I thoroughly enjoyed the fighting and everything else they went through.

I didn’t think I could love the two of them more, but that was before I got my hands on “Until You.”

First of all, if it’s possible, Tate looks five times as badass through Jared’s eyes. I mean, even when he hates her and does his best to break her down, you can feel how high up he has mentally placed her. It’s as if he has given her this power, like she has complete control over him. He hates her so much, but he can’t function without some kind of…anything…from her or about her.

“I’d be happier without her around, I told myself. She was nothing. And yet, I heard the little voice in the back of my head. She was my everything.”

I remember seeing a Facebook status from the author once about how some readers’ biggest complaint was that they didn’t feel Jared redeemed himself enough in “Bully.” Well, I have to say I am so fucking thankful for that.

Had we learned everything, gotten to the absolute bottom of his issues, there would have been no need for this installment. And that made this one of the best alternate POV’s I have ever read. It was not a regurgitation of the first book at all. Though there were some pivotal moments that we needed to see inside his head as well, it was completely different. I loved learning how he viewed her before the incident that made him end their friendship, how he viewed her after as his enemy, and eventually, as his lover.

There was such an intensity to Jared that you could definitely feel in the first book, but in this one? The pain and chaos that run rampant through him jump off the page and root themselves right into your mind. We learn so much about his past, answers that we didn’t totally get before, reasons why he makes Tate’s life a living hell. And as he attempts to prove to himself that he hates her and plots ways to take her down, it’s an easier pill to swallow since we already know what is to come.

“And when I thought of how I could’ve felt all of this by simply being close to her rather than hurting her, I was planted—no, stuck—to the ground by the weight of wasted time.”

Oh yeah, and the lover part? Holy freaking crap. This book has one of my favorite sex scenes, ever. It’s not overly graphic, though the depictions are believable for a guy his age. And I am seriously considering returning my counter height dining table and going for something a little more, umm…practical.

Of course, the end is a treat because we get more than we did in the first one. I also love how the author threw in tidbits of information about some of the other characters that I know are getting their own books in the near future. I can only hope that we get tons of glimpses of Tate and Jared throughout the other stories, because they were my absolute favorite couple of 2013.

And for a book that was never supposed to be, I have to say that “Until You” joins the ranks right next to “Bully” as one of my favorites of the entire year, probably ever! Definitely worth more than 5 stars!

My name is Tate. He doesn't call me that, though. He would never refer to me so informally, if he referred to me at all. No, he'll barely even speak to me.

But he still won't leave me alone.

We were best friends once. Then he turned on me and made it his mission to ruin my life. I've been humiliated, shut out, and gossiped about all through high school. His pranks and rumors got more sadistic as time wore on, and I made myself sick trying to stay out of his way. I even went to France for a year, just to avoid him.

But I'm done hiding from him now, and there's no way in hell I'll allow him to ruin my senior year. He might not have changed, but I have. It's time to fight back.

*This novel contains adult/mature young adult situations. It is only suitable for ages 18+ due to language, violence, and sexual situations.

**This book is the first in a series but can be read as a STAND ALONE. The next books will focus on side characters from this story.

Penelope Douglas is a writer and teacher in Las Vegas. Born in Dubuque, Iowa, she is the oldest of five children. Penelope attended the University of Northern Iowa, earning a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, because her father told her to "just get the damn degree!" She then earned a Masters of Science in Education at Loyola University in New Orleans, because she HATED public administration. One night, she got tipsy and told the bouncer at the bar where she worked (yes, she was drunk at work)that his son was hot, and three years later she was married. To the son, not the bouncer. They have spawn, but just one. A daughter named Aydan. Penelope loves sweets, the show Sons of Anarchy, and she shops at Target almost daily.

Bully (Fall Away #1) is my first book, published June 3013. Please look for the companion novel, Until You, in late fall 2013 and Rival in the summer of 2014.
