Review: Killing Sarai by J. A. Redmerski

Blurb:

From the author of the New York Times, USA Today & Wall Street Journal bestselling novel, THE EDGE OF NEVER, comes a story of passion and survival…

Sarai was only fourteen when her mother uprooted her to live in Mexico with a notorious drug lord. Over time she forgot what it was like to live a normal life, but she never let go of her hope to escape the compound where she has been held for the past nine years.

Victor is a cold-blooded assassin who, like Sarai, has known only death and violence since he was a young boy. When Victor arrives at the compound to collect details and payment for a hit, Sarai sees him as her only opportunity for escape. But things don’t go as planned and instead of finding transport back to Tucson, she finds herself free from one dangerous man and caught in the clutches of another.

While on the run, Victor strays from his primal nature as he succumbs to his conscience and resolves to help Sarai. As they grow closer, he finds himself willing to risk everything to keep her alive; even his relationship with his devoted brother and liaison, Niklas, who now like everyone else wants Sarai dead.

As Victor and Sarai slowly build a trust, the differences between them seem to lessen, and an unlikely attraction intensifies. But Victor’s brutal skills and experience may not be enough in the end to save her, as the power she unknowingly holds over him may ultimately be what gets her killed.

This is their story…

Alexis says:

Wow, that was one hell of a ride!  I absolutely loved J.A. Redmerski’s other book, “The Edge of Never” so I was excited to read this book.  I must warn you, this book is nothing like her other book, it is dark, gritty, captivating, and just utterly fantastic!  This is not a book to devour, you need to savor it.
“I’m afraid of Victor walking out that door and never seeing him again.”
Sarai has spent the last nine years held captivity by a drug lord, Javier, in Mexico.  The nine years in captivity has taught her to become numb to killing, rape, and drugs. Her way out comes in the form of Victor, a hitman who has come to the compound to meet with Javier.  I completely admired Sarai and her strength and drive for survival.  She has held in so much for way too long so when she finally breaks down it is heartbreaking.  I loved the girl that Sarai became by the end of the book.  She is definitely kick-ass!
“We sit in stillness, both looking out ahead, both married to our thoughts.  I wonder if hers are about me.  I can’t help but for mine to be about her.”
Victor was intriguing right from the get-go.  He is a sexy, very alpha-male, filthy rich, and a mysterious hitman.  He had been recruited to be part of The Order from an early age.  The lifestyle as a hitman does not allow for any sort of friendship or relationship.   He doesn’t trust anyone AND IS always questioning people’s motives. He risked his life by keeping Sarai with him which also goes against everything that he believes.  Sarai was able to get close to him unlike anyone else has besides his brother.
“This goes against everything that I am, Sarai,” he says and then kisses me.  “No, it doesn’t,” I whisper and kiss him back.  “It’s you becoming more of who you really are.”
This book is not your typical romance novel, it is more of a slow burn.  This book has so much intensity and twists and turns I did not see coming.  I also loved that the book was told in dual POVs, which I am a huge fan of.  On a side note, there is a cliffhanger at the end, but it is not bad.
5++ stars!

Sneak Peek! Prologue of Trust by L. Chapman

Prologue:

I love this time – 'our time’. John has the weekend off. He is lucky that he never has to work weekends. I’m only off today, and tomorrow, I leave for a three day first aid course. John should be arriving soon; I just finished showering and getting dressed. Well...when I say dressed, I mean putting on my sexy red bra and panties set, just the type that he likes, nice and lacy. I put on a short, red halter neck dress over the top of my lingerie to give him a bit of work to do. I never wear things this short when I’m out, only for John, this is for his eyes only. John and I have been together for five years. I don't remember the last time we have actually spent a full day together. We still have separate homes; in fact, he stayed at his house last night.

“Hi Megan,” John calls outas he walks through the door, locking it behind him like he always does, that will keep anyone from disturbing us.

“I'm in the lounge,” I am so excited; I stand still and wait for him to walk in.

“Now, then Sexy,” he pauses as he gives my ensemble a once-over.I can’t do anything but blush.

He is in his normal T-shirt with a logo of a band on it and jeans. His brown hair is short as usual; I wish he would let it grow. It would give me more to grab hold of, during our intimate times. His eyes are a dark intriguing green colour. “I love what you're wearing. Are you going to stand up and give me a twirl?” John inquires as he winks at me.
I stand up and walk straight into his arms, “I don't twirl...unless you twirl me.”

“Oh Sexy, I am going to twirl you so much and you know it,”he says as he places his lips to my neck and kisses the nape.

Oh, he knows how to get me going.

Bio:

I live in a small New England town that is North of Boston. There I live with my loving and supportive husband and my two young boys. I find most of my inspiration in other authors. I also have music, my amazing family, friends, and of course my awesome co-worker at that all inspire me. I really enjoy reading, writing, taking pictures, massages, coffee, chocolate, ice cream, and beer & wine. I also run a book blog on Facebook that’s called Talkbooks. I love to spend any free time I get playing with my boys, teaching them, taking family trips, spending time with my loved ones, going on quiet dates with my hubby, and crazy fun nights out with my girlfriends.

My first book is called Never Say Never. I self published this book on March 21, 2013. Very soon after hitting that publish button on Amazon I came to realize that my book needed a little more editing and needed to be revised a bit. So after some serious consideration I decided to take the book down and do what needed to be done to it. It has taken me a bit longer than I would have liked but some things got in the way…..well that’s life for ya! I have worked full force on it so once I get it edited it should be back up and available for purchase. My hope is sometime in July. Fingers crossed on as soon as possible! This book is a cliff hanger so be aware of that. There is a part 2 to follow and that I am hoping to have it done by fall/winter 2013.

Review: Giving You Forever by Ashley Wilcox

Blurb:

From the moment Nolan Pratt walked into Alexa Arnold’s life everything was forever changed. After a year of dating, the ring was on her finger, the house was purchased, and life was heading down Pleasantville Lane. Everything was perfect.

Or so they thought.

With help from his parent’s inheritance, Nolan takes on a new business adventure, utilizing all his free time. What was once their life- carefree with minimal responsibilities, is no more. When Alexa starts to feel the pressure from school, wedding planning, and lack of help from Nolan, exhaustion kicks in and feelings get hurt, testing the strength of their relationship. But, if there is one thing that Nolan will never compromise, it’s Alexa’s happiness. There’s nothing Nolan Pratt won’t do to make sure Alexa is well taken care of, loved, and happy.

When Nolan’s past resurfaces- a past that Alexa didn’t know existed- will it all be too much? Will Nolan’s devotion to Alexa’s happiness cost him their relationship and lose him the only thing that has ever mattered in his life? Or will Nolan discover that his past doesn’t determine his future and he is worth the happiness he doesn’t think he deserves?

Jennifer says:

I am mixed emotions on this book. This is the 4th book in the Forever Series. I have read this first book in the series "Planning on Forever" which had a storyline that revolved around Alexa, our female lead in this book. But this book was so different that the other book and, from what I understand, the rest of the series. This is the first book in the series that would be considered erotica... with that... It was just that, filled with lots of hot steamy sex but I felt it lacked a real storyline. I loved Planning on Forever... it was a nice sweet story that I really enjoyed but with this, I felt the author tried to put in too much sex. Did I just say that?? Yes I did...

So the story starts out with Alexa still in college and Nolan working at a gym trying hard to open his own. Alexa is now going to be planning their wedding and with that we get a little surprise from Nolan's past. The wedding planner is someone from his past and he is beyond livid when he finds out who it is. With his past being confronted with his future, we do learn more about his story. I would say that was the one part I did like and enjoy. We learned about his parents and their tragic passing and how it unraveled and he almost destroyed his own life in the years that followed before he met Alexa. But take this part out of the story and I couldn't really give you much anything else. It was a good easy read but unfortunately for me there wasn't much substance for it.
I do give kudos to Ashley for writing a hot story... that is where I will give her points. The sex scenes are hot and steamy and there are lots of them! I just wish we learned more about the characters besides them being sex addicts! I would give this book a 3 star but with the hot sex give it another ½ for a total rating of 3.5 stars.

Julie says:

‘Giving You Forever’ is the fourth book in The Forever Series by Ashley Wilcox.  This is actually the continuation of Nolan and Alexa’s story from the first book.  I found it enjoyable but yet a lot steamier than the first three.

Alexa and Nolan are so much in love and can’t wait to start their life together.
‘She sweeps away the worries of life around us and consumes every last ounce of my soul.’

They are now engaged and planning their future.

“I can’t wait to make you officially mine.” – Alexa

Between Nolan trying to open his own business and Alexa finishing school, she realizes she is needing someone to help plan their wedding and, in hiring someone, she finds out a part of Nolan that she never knew existed.  She is utterly shocked to know he has a past, and how it can affect them.  ‘Every last inch of myself is being consumed by him, and I can’t think of any other place that I’d rather be.’

They deal with changes in their relationship and their struggles are not easy.
‘She’s the reason to my being, the air to my lungs, the soul to my existence.’ She fights for him and I am in awe of the love they share.

“You are the best thing that has ever happened to me – I could never love anyone else the way I love you.” – Alexa

I am glad to see not just a fairy tale story, but be prepared for a lot sexier material in this one.   It was something I was not expecting and made me look at their story in a whole new way.  I would give this 4 stars and hoping see more from Ashley’s “The Forever Series”.
