~ EXCERPT ~

Brooke and I are wearing those plastic
backstage passes around our necks and when two really big body guards standing
at the backstage entrance see them they let us pass right through the door.

As I glance around at all the other
people with backstage passes I notice they all look a lot more like Brooke than
I expected. All of the girls are wearing ultra-short, skin-tight skirts with
barely there tops.

The guys all look like they just
stepped out of the band themselves. They’re all young and hot and they seem to
know it.

There’s definitely no shortage of
arrogance in the room.

“I’m definitely going after Leo,”
Brooke whispers to me as we approach the band.

All three of the band members are
standing next to each other drinking beers and talking with a bevy of blondes.

Maybe this isn’t the best place for
Brooke to be hanging out. She hasn’t been sober very long and I don’t want her
to fall into temptation. I have a feeling if Leo handed her a beer she wouldn’t
say no.

“I’m getting tired,” I say and fake a
big yawn.

“You are not going to wimp out on me.”
Brooke gives me a cold glare. “We’re not leaving here until we meet Always
Rayne. All of them.”

Nic Rayne looks like he’s getting
bored with the blondes. He’s glancing around the room rather than paying
attention to what the girls are saying.

As soon as Nic’s eyes land on me I can
see his expression change. His brows are furrowed and he looks puzzled. I’m
sure he’s wondering what someone who looks like me is doing backstage.

Disappointment crosses over the faces
of the two girls vying for Nic’s attention when he walks away from them and
heads in my direction.

“You,” he points to me. At least I
think he’s pointing at me. When I look around and realize I’m standing alone, I
know he’s pointing at me.

Then I panic because I’m standing
alone. Where the hell is my roommate? The one who dragged me here in the first
place practically kicking and screaming. She completely abandoned me. I also
notice that one of Nic Rayne’s bandmates seems to have vanished just as
quickly.

It isn’t possible for Brooke to hook
up with someone that fast, is it?

This is Brooke we’re talking about.
Not only is it possible, it’s highly probable.

Nic Rayne is now glaring at me. It’s
like he can’t believe I didn’t jump as soon as he pointed to me. I can already
tell this guy is a piece of work. He’s probably used to getting any girl he
wants with the snap of his finger. Hell, he’s probably used to getting anything
he wants the second the demand comes out of this mouth.

I can see him let out an exasperated
breath and then head in my direction. I quickly scan the room to see if I can
spot an exit but by the time my eyes land on one, it’s too late. Nic Rayne has
already entered my personal space.

And he’s not just close to me; he’s
practically on top of me. And I don’t like it. He makes me extremely
uncomfortable. I’d rather be anywhere than standing next to Nic Rayne. I’d
rather be back in Economics class at the university and I hate Economics. It’s
the only class I ever got a C in.

“What’s up?” Nic says.

I’ve seen him in movies so I knew he
was tall and muscular. I guess it never occurred to me how tall and muscular he
really is. The guy is towering over me and I’m not that short. I’m five feet
six inches. Nic has got to be at least six inches taller than me.

“Did you see where my friend went?”

He nods but doesn’t say anything else.

“Okay. Would you mind telling me where
she went?”

“With Leo.”

I assume he means Leo Donovan, his cousin
and the guitar player in Always Rayne.

“Hey, Rayne.” Xander Donovan, Nic’s
other cousin, and the band’s drummer, places a hand on Nic’s shoulder. “Pick
the girl you want and let’s go. We’re all headed over to Troy.”

Troy is the trendiest club in the
city. I’ve heard a lot about it but haven’t been able to afford the stiff cover
charge and the fifteen dollar drinks.

“Come on,” Nic says and turns to leave
as if I’m supposed to follow him.

He takes a few steps before he
realizes that I’m not following him. Then he turns back around and gives me an
odd look. “Aren’t you coming?”

I shake my head.
“Why not?” He actually looks puzzled.

“Do you want a list?”

His eyes narrow and then he walks back
over to me. He gets so close I can smell his masculine scent and what’s left of
his spicy cologne. “What’s the list?”

I gulp. I wasn’t actually expecting
him to ask for the list. I thought he’d just get disgusted and find some other
girl to go with him.

“Well, you’re not my type. I don’t
find you remotely attractive. Or particularly interesting. I don’t like your
music at all. And you don’t seem very smart. And I don’t sleep with guys I
don’t know. So, maybe you should just find some other girl to take to Troy.”

He’s doing his best to bite back a
grin. The smug asshole actually finds what I’ve said funny. I didn’t think I
could dislike him more but he’s really pushing my buttons.

“I’m not your type, huh?” He leans in
even closer. So close, I can feel his breath on my neck. “I’m everybody’s
type.”

I try to swallow but I feel like
there’s a golf ball stuck in my throat.

“You don’t find me attractive, huh?
Then why are you sweating?” He places his hand right over my heart. “And your
heart is beating a mile a minute. Maybe you should listen to what your body
wants instead of what your brain is telling you.”

I take a step back and try to collect
myself. I wipe my brow and realize I really am sweating. And he’s right, my
heart is racing. What the hell is going on?

“I’m not some groupie who’s going to
do whatever you want because you snapped your fingers.”

He looks me up and down. “I can see
that.”

I place my hands on my hips. “What is
that supposed to mean?”

He actually has the audacity to laugh.
“No one would ever mistake you for a groupie that’s for sure.”

“Why do you say that?”

“Your clothes are like some crazy
mash-up between a hippie and a school librarian.”

I glance down at my flowered skirt and
strappy sandals. He has a point. I’m not exactly a fashion whore like my
roommate. Not that I have the money to update my wardrobe even if I wanted to.

He steps closer again. He’s got a
habit of getting right into my personal space and it makes me uncomfortable
every time he does it. When I look into his deep brown eyes, I have the feeling
that he’s doing it just to get a rise out of me.

“What are you doing here?” he asks.
For the first time since we’ve met, he actually sounds sincere.

“I came with my roommate. She won
tickets from the radio station. She wanted to see you. And your cousins.”

“I asked what you’re doing here.”

“I guess I’m here for moral support,”
I stammer. And I have a press pass.”

I’m not sure why I tell him that. I
guess I feel like I need some kind of excuse to be here because I’m definitely
not here for the music.

“Why am I not surprised? You look like
a writer. Or a librarian.”

I dig around in my purse and pull out
my press pass. To my surprise, he grabs it from my hand. “Chatter. Never heard
of it.”

“It’s an online magazine. A start up.”

He nods then hands me back my
credentials.
“Do you like it?”

“Like what?” I’m surprised by the
question.

“Writing. Working for a magazine.”

I shrug. “I’ve never thought about
doing anything else. My parents named me Harper Leigh. I was kind of destined
to be a writer.”

He’s looking at me with a blank stare.
Maybe he really is as brainless as I think. And for some strange reason that
disappoints me.

“Harper Leigh,” I repeat. “I spell my
name differently but she was a writer.”

He’s still looking at me with a blank
expression.

“She won the Pulitzer Prize.”

Then he smiles. “I know who Harper Lee
is. To Kill a Mocking Bird. Won the
Pulitzer Prize in 1961. She was also good friends with Truman Capote. She
helped him with the research for In Cold
Blood.”

I can feel my jaw drop.

“I guess I’m smarter than you think.”
He leans in close again. “And I’m also a great actor apparently because I had
you fooled.”

I want to say something in response
but no words come out of my mouth.

“Rayne.” It’s Xander again. “Come on.
We’ve got to bounce.”

“Does everyone call you Rayne?”

“Always.”

Blog Tour and Review: Without Hesitation by CJ Azevedo

At eleven years old, Macie James was certain she saw her prince standing in her kitchen with his rosy cheeks and cute smile. She was going to marry that boy, she had no doubt about it. As she became a teenager, it was that boy who taught her how to become a confident and sure woman. As the years went by and they grew up, he taught her how to love and to be loved.

Greyden Michaels was surprised when he fell for his best friend’s little sister. He wasn’t opposed to it and, even more surprising, neither was his best friend. When he was in college and her just in high school, he realized they were too young to be committed, he opted for friendship with her and together they decided their love was for the future.

When you hesitate, life happens. When life happens, your plans change. Macie wanted her fairy tale and Greyden was prepared to give it to her when unfortunate events changed his whole life, including his future with the UFC and, most devastatingly, with her. Macie made the decision to live her life, to move on without Greyden, especially once she met the man who wanted to marry her and give her the life he couldn’t.

The problem with that was that Greyden had always seen her as his. Could he give her up completely for her supposed happiness or could he somehow manage to get his life in order to try and win her back, heart and soul?

How many 13 year old girls can say that they meet and fall in love with their soul-mate?  What happens when everything as time goes on keeps your dreams from becoming a reality?  Do you settle for the wrong man, even when the love of your life is staring you in the face?  These are the choices and challenges that Macie Jones faces in the book, Without Hesitation.

Without Hesitation follows Macie and Greydon.  Star crossed lovers who can't seem to get out of their own way and out of their heads to follow their hearts to one another.  She falls in love with him at the tender age of 13, making promises to him and getting her first kiss.  And as time goes on, falling more and more in love with the very lovable Greydon Michaels, her brother's best friend.  (We've all been there right? I know I did growing up!)

Time goes on, Macie grows up into a beautiful "Butterfly" as Greydon calls her and as badly as he wants to love her forever, he can't commit.  Too many things are in his head to keep him from it.  She moves on but they still fall into a "friends with benefits" category without family knowing.

After Macie's engagement goes south, Greydon is there to pick up the pieces and they finally realize that they are truly meant to be together forever.  Without Hesitation, they get their happily ever after.

Believe me when I say you will NOT be disappointed when you read this book, but you have to read Without Boundaries and Without Doubt first to get a feel for the other characters.  And I assure you, I wasn't sure what to think when I started this series.  But I definitely found a new found love series that I can go back to time and time again.  I look forward to reading many more things from CJ Azevedo in the future!!

http://amzn.to/1zV33eK“I can’t make you mine right now, Macie.” He sounded dejected.

“I know,” she whispered across his lips, this time pressing her mouth against his.

“I don’t trust anybody else with you,” he said as she deepened the kiss a little more, but he wasn’t letting her fully in.

She licked his top lip and a small groan came out against his wishes. “I know, Sugar Plum.” She kissed just his bottom lip; being the only participant in the kiss was becoming challenging.

Greyden laughed. “Noooo.” He gripped her face, stopping her ministrations. She scrunched up her nose at him. “Macie, remember our plans?”

She nodded. How could she forget? They had a future together, just not a present.

He tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear. “I promise to keep my mouth shut if you want to date, if you promise to date guys your own age and to be smart.”

Macie’s shoulders sagged in disappointment. That’s not where she was hoping he was going to go with that. “Grey, I don’t—”

“Butterfly,” he slides a finger to her lips effectively shushing her, “I wish I could be that guy for you right now, but I can’t. I know that others can’t either, but apparently you’re going to have to figure that one out on your own. That’s why I ask that you wait ‘til you’re eighteen for the major stuff. Because, Butterfly…God. Macie James, you’re not the girl guys screw around with. You’re the girl guys marry. You’re the girl I’m going to marry.”

Macie gasped in complete shock at his words. Stunned speechless. What does one say to that anyway?

Thankfully, she didn’t have to think too long. Greyden slid off the truck, coming in close contact along her body, not letting her back up. He leaned down, his lips hovering over hers momentarily, just barely brushing them before pressing the sweetest kiss to her hyper aware lips. His lips were soft and warm and Macie wanted to pull him even closer than he already was and open up to him, but that’s not the kind of kiss he was giving her. No, he was giving her a kiss of a promise, a promise of a future, of a friendship and of a love that will only bloom with time, that’s what this kiss was. It was kind of heartbreaking on her end. It may be what he wanted and needed right now, but he just told her he was going to marry her, yet she couldn’t really kiss him, or have him.

WARNING: This book is intended for 18+ readers ONLY. Potentially triggering content and concepts in books to follow.

More than a year after the death of his best friend, Josh is still tormented by the past. Everything changes when free-spirited Willow barges into his life. She challenges him, helps him feel something other than the overwhelming pain, sadness, and anger.

There’s just one problem.

Underneath that carefree spirit, Willow is elusive and secretive. Josh believes she may be fighting a few demons of her own, but he harder he tries to uncover the truth, the more she pushes him away.

Can Josh get her to open up before it’s too late? Or will he discover that some secrets are better left untold?

Excerpt:
I first met Willow out on Old Mill Road. Standing on the ledge of the arched concrete bridge, her arms spread wide, she looked like a bird about to take flight. I probably would have taken more time to admire the absolute freedom she embodied in that moment, the auburn curls whipping around her upturned face, the way the moonlight made her porcelain skin shimmer…but it looked like she was about to jump.
I remember my hesitation, how desperately I wanted to turn back the way I’d come and pretend I’d never seen her. I know it makes me sound like an insensitive prick, but I wasn’t exactly thrilled at having the life or death of some crazy chick thrown in my lap. Not that I didn’t understand, at least on some level, what might be going through her head. Hell, I knew, better than most, what it meant to feel like life would never get better.
It’d only been six weeks since my release from Shady Oak’s mental facility. I wasn’t the person to talk her down; I didn’t know the first thing about helping someone find the light at the end of the tunnel. Hell, I still had days that I’d much rather jump right along with her than try and brave another day.
Thankfully, that particular day hadn’t been one of them.
I stood there a few moments longer, considering my options. I could turn around and go back the way I came, but I wasn’t exactly up for that. I could go past her and risk spooking her, but the last thing I needed was the aftermath of watching her plummet to her death – calling the police, filing a report, explaining what had happened. It wouldn’t hurt to at least try and talk her off the ledge, right?
Having made my decision, I edged cautiously along the gravel path, taking slow and calculated steps towards bird-girl. Stopping just feet away from her, I weighed the risk of grabbing ahold of the oversized sweater jacket she was wearing. My luck, the damn thing would come clean off and she’d end up in the water anyway, so I decided against it.
I was still trying to decide how to go about helping her when she spoke, voice confident as she kept her face upturned towards the night sky. “I’m not going to jump.”
I cleared my throat and hoped to God the irritation didn’t seep through. “No offense, miss, but that’s not what it looks like from here.”
Her head tilted slightly, as if she were trying to shrug, but the movement came up short. I waited for some other response, but the uncomfortable silence stretched on, giving me the impression that my presence was both unwanted and unnecessary.
“Well, you…uh, have a nice night,” I finally said, taking a couple backward steps towards town.
“You could join me.” Her words, prying and inquisitive, stopped me dead in my tracks.
“Yeeaaah….Thanks, but I prefer to keep my feet on the ground.”
She chuckled. The light, carefree sound intrigued and, for some unknown reason, annoyed me all at once. Maybe because I’d never laughed like that. Hell, I didn’t know anyone that had. It left me questioning what the hell she was doing up there in the first place.
Crazy. Definitely crazy.
Determined to get as far away from her as possible, I started backing away. I didn’t make it but a few steps when she glanced over her shoulder at me. The wide-eyed conviction in her sparkling, crystal blue eyes ensnared me, rooted me to the ground beneath my feet.
“How will you ever learn to fly if you don’t take time to spread your wings?” she asked.
And just like that, the pull I’d felt just seconds before shook free, floating away with the cold, bitter wind. I’d taken enough rides on the crazy train to last a lifetime. “Well, anyway. It was, uh, nice meeting you.”

Quirky, clumsy, and always a little off-key, Kate Givans has always loved books and the words contained within. Now that she's writing the stories, she's filling them with broken characters, angst, and even a few of those happily-ever-afters that seem to evade us in real life.
When not writing, this wife and mother of five can be found guzzling coffee, day-dreaming, dancing for no reason at all, playing with the voices in her head, watching her favorite shows (Originals, Grey's, OUAT, The Following), listening to music, and reminding herself to "breathe."
