TEASER BLITZ: WILD RECKLESS BY GINGER SCOTT

Displaying WildReckless_FinalWeb.jpg

Blurb:
Kensington Worth had a vision for her senior year. It involved her best friends, her posh private school in downtown Chicago and time alone with her piano until her audition was perfected, a guaranteed ticket into the best music programs in the world.

Instead, a nightmare took over.

It didn’t happen all at once, but her life unraveled quickly—a tiny thread that evil somehow kept pulling until everything precious was taken from her. She was suddenly living miles away from her old life, trapped in an existence she didn’t choose—one determined to destroy her from the inside, leaving only hate and anger behind. It didn’t help that her neighbor, the one whose eyes held danger, was enjoying every second of her fall.

Owen Harper was trouble, his heart wild and his past the kind that’s spoken about in whispers. And somehow, his path was always intertwined with Kensington’s, every interaction crushing her, ruining her hope for any future better than her now. Sometimes, though, what everyone warns is trouble, is exactly what the heart needs. Owen Harper was consumed with darkness, and it held onto his soul for years. When Kensington looked at him, she saw a boy who’d gotten good at taking others down when they threatened his carefully balanced life. But the more she looked, the more she saw other things too—good things…things to admire.

Things…to love. Things that made her want to be reckless.

And those things…they were the scariest of all.

PROLOGUE REVEAL: EMBER BY RACHEL VAN DYKEN

RELEASE DATE: FEBRUARY 19

I am a Killer. A Rapist. A Monster.
I know only pain and survival.
That is until the Cappo's sister walked into my life.
And changed everything.
She's a light who makes my darkness darker, her smile makes
my heart turn to ice, and I can't escape the fear her seductive looks
instill--knowing it's only a matter of time before I fail--again, and take her
for myself.
This is the story of my redemption.
But it's not pretty...I died, and now I'm alive, but not
living, breathing but not surviving. I am Phoenix De Lange, son to a murdered
mob boss, estranged brother, horrible friend, monster in the making, newest
leader to one of the most powerful families in the Cosa Nostra.
And I will have my vengeance.
Or die trying.
I am Phoenix De Lange.
Death is all I know.
Until she offers me a piece of life--I can't resist taking.

Prologue

Ember: A small piece of burning coal.

Example: All it takes is a one tiny piece of ember to start a flame, one small
flame to burst forth into a fire. One spark, and a man’s world may implode from
the inside out.

PROLOGUE

Phoenix

“Do it,” my
father
spat.
“Or I will.”
I looked at the girl at my feet
and back at my father. “No.”
He lifted his hand above my
head; I knew what was coming, knew it would hurt like hell but had no way to
fight back — he’d already starved me of my food for the past three days for
arguing, for trying to save the girl and her cousin.
His fist hit my temple so hard
that I fell to the ground with a cry. The click of his boots against the cement
gave me the only warning I’d have as he reared back and kicked me in the ribs;
over and over again he kicked. The girl screamed, but I stayed silent.
Screaming didn’t help; nothing did.
I waited until he was done — I
prayed that he would kill me this time. I prayed so hard that I was convinced
God was finally going to hear me and take me away from my hell. Anything was
better than living. Anything.
“You worthless—” Another kick
to the head. “—piece of shit!” A kick to my gut. “You will never be boss, not
if you cry every time you must do the hard thing!” Finally, blessed darkness
enveloped my line of vision.
I woke up from the nightmare
screaming, not even realizing that I was safe, in my own bed. With a curse I
checked the clock.
Three a.m.
Well, at least I’d only had one
nightmare — that I’d remembered. I’d been living with Sergio for the past week;
his house was so big that I’d basically taken the east wing, and he’d taken the
West, said he’d hated living alone anyway. I wasn’t stupid; I knew the guy
wasn’t exactly a big fan, but it worked. I needed to stay in the States while I
figured shit out.
And I wasn’t ready to leave.
Not when I needed to learn all I could from Nixon. Not when I had
responsibility.
And not when I had those black
folders freaking burning a hole in my mind.
Luca hadn’t just left me an
empire; he’d left me secrets. I wasn’t sure what was worse, knowing everything
there was to know about those I was supposed to be protecting or knowing that
at any minute one of them could turn on us.
“Hey!” Bee barged into my room.
“Damn it!” I pulled the
blankets over my naked body, my heart picking up speed at her tousled hair and
bedroom eyes. Tex’s sister, Tex’s sister.
My body wasn’t accepting that — physically it wasn’t accepting any information
other than she was beautiful.
And it was dark.
I looked away, scowling.
“I heard screaming.” Bee took a
step forward, her perfume floating off her body like an aphrodisiac or drug,
making me calm, making me want something I had no business wanting.
“Yeah, well…” I gave her a cold
glance. “…clearly I’m fine, so you should go. Actually, why are you here? You
know you live with Tex, right?”
She shrugged and sat on my bed.
I clenched my fists around the blankets to keep from reaching out to her. It
was getting harder and harder to ignore her warmth — when I lived in a constant
state of near-death cold.
“He’s with Mo, and they need
privacy. I’m not stupid. So I asked Sergio if I could move in for a while.”
“You did what?” I asked in a
deadly tone, one I was sure would probably give her nightmares later.
She grinned. “I’m your new
roomie!” Bee bounced on the bed and sent me a shy look from beneath her dark
lashes. “Admit it, you miss our slumber parties.”

Forget the nightmare — I was
looking at it.

EXCERPT

I was done denying myself.  I wanted to touch her.  To taste her.  There was no reason for us to keep
acting like we weren't attracted to each other.

“You sure you want to cross this line?” I looked down at the sliver of space between us and back up into her eyes.  “The last thing I want is for this whole thing to get awkward.”

“It's not going to,” she insisted.  “Like you said, two consenting adults blowing off a little steam.
As long as you don't get all clingy with me.”

“I'll try my best,” I promised, as I wrapped my arms around her waist and crushed my lips to hers.
I'd been wondering what her lips tasted like for the better part of a week now and I was not disappointed.  Like strawberries and whatever unbridled passion tasted like. She pushed the welding
mask from the top of my head and it fell to the ground with a thud as she tangled her fingers in my hair, pulling me closer.  Her tongue danced over the seam of my lips and I graciously let her in, needing her as much as she needed me.

I'd never been kissed like that.  Never by someone with wild abandonment, like she didn't have a damn care in the world about what any of it meant.  It was strictly about what felt good and right then, kissing her felt like the best thing in the world.

I hoisted her body up. She wrapped her legs around my waist and I navigated us toward the workbench I'd been sitting on earlier.  Her lips never relented their assault on mine and I would be damned if I was going to let her out kiss me. Besides my competitive streak, I was enjoying
it too much to let myself stop.

As soon as I had her perched on the work bench, my body pressed between her thighs, her
hands dropped from my hair to tug my shirt up over my head. She tossed it aside and let her hands rake over my back and shoulders.  Her eyes taking a brief moment to admire my chest and
stomach.  I was glad that I hadn't stop giving a shit about my body and quit working out.  And from the pace we were setting I was going to need my energy.

“Greedy girl,” I chuckled against her lips, before grabbing the hem of her shirt and yanking it off her body with the same determination she'd just had with mine.  “This is a two way street.”

“I'm well aware,” she flashed me a sultry smile, before reaching behind her back to
unclasp her bra.  Effortlessly, she pulled it from her body and sat up straight in front of me.  “We even now?”

Title: Escaping Me
Author: Elizabeth Lee
Age Group: NA
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Published: July 30, 2013

Description:

All she wanted to do was forget. Forget the memory of walking in on her boyfriend in the middle of, well, another girl. Forget how she had her entire life planned out. And, forget about being perfect all the time. Unfortunately, she was Whitney Vandaveer and despite the fact that she moved to the middle of nowhere – she couldn't.

He always knew he would never be more than nothing. No job, no money, no future. Cole Pritchett had accepted the fact that he would always be the screw up and he was okay with it. Until he met her.

Here's the thing they quickly found out – sometimes we all need a little help escaping who we think we are.

Author Bio:

Born and raised in the middle of a Midwestern cornfield (not literally, that would be weird), I’ve spent my entire life imagining stories. Stories where the right guy always gets the right girl, first kisses are as magical as they are on the big screen and anything is completely possible if you believe.

Although this journey began years ago, it recently took on a whole new life. After years of devouring hundreds of Romance, YA and New Adult novels, I had an epiphany... I should write a book. And I did it!

If I’m not reading, writing, enjoying drinks with my amazing group of girlfriends or chasing around a sarcastically funny kid, I’m probably watching television shows that were created for teenagers, while my husband teases that I’m too old to watch them.

EXCERPT
Halloween night, while everyone was dressing up and attending
parties, Cy and I were in the basement, punching numbers. The Fitz was one of
the oldest buildings on campus, and it struggled to keep itself comfortably
heated in the winter and cooled in the summer. The basement was particularly
miserable and felt like an icebox on very cold nights.

I sipped my water and pulled the sleeves of my sweater further
down my hands.

Cy cleared his throat and, for the first time in weeks, spoke to
me first. “I can talk to Dr. Zorba about a space heater.”

“He’ll never go for it,” I said, putting down my water and wiping
my lips with the cuff of my sweater. “He wouldn’t risk a fire or a significant
temperature change affecting the specimen.”

“It won’t affect the specimen. It came from space.”

“Exactly. Where it’s cold.”

“Who says the planet it originated from wasn’t able to retain
higher temperatures?”

“Like Venus?”

“Exactly like Venus. I mean . . . I’m sure that it’s possible.
I’ll look into a space heater.” I watched him expectantly. “What?”

“No Uranus jokes? I’m disappointed.”

“What do you mean?”

I chuckled. “Never mind.” My fingers began clicking against the
keyboard again, and I was sure that I’d caught Cy staring at me from the corner
of my eye. I glanced over at him. “What?”

“You’re much more attractive when you smile. And your laugh is
lovely.”

“Uh . . . thank you.”

“You’re—”

“I’m welcome. It’s okay. I say thank you to you a lot,
apparently.”

“I just want you to . . . I don’t know what I want.”

He stared at me for a few moments more then continued with his
work. My face caught fire as the blood pooled under my cheeks. My fingers
wouldn’t work after that, and I couldn’t concentrate on the numbers.

Cy stood up and left the room without a word. Right about the
time I’d decided to get up and look for him, he returned, setting a
Butterfinger on my desk.

“Trick or treat, right?” he said.

“Is that a Halloween joke? I mean that’s cool. I just didn’t know
you had a sense of humor.”

“I’m surprised you’re here. There are costume parties all over
campus.”

I shook my head. “I don’t really do parties. Just once in a while
when I’m bored out of my mind, but I avoid Halloween parties at all costs.”

“Why is that?”

“Fake blood. Dead people. Slutty costumes. None of it screams fun to me.”

Cy grinned. “I suppose not. We still have an hour or so of work
to do. Would you mind if I walk you home when we’re finished?”

“Why?”

My response took Cy off guard. He blinked a few times and then
cleared his throat. “I think that maybe my insistence not to form attachments
here was incorrect. We spend a lot of time together down here, and I’d like to
get to know you better.”

“So that’s why you’ve been ignoring me? Because you know you’re
leaving?”

He hesitated. “In part, yes.”

“What’s the other part?”

He squirmed in his chair. “You . . . intrigue me.”

I wanted to high-five myself. The few times we’d interacted
before I thought he was being nice in spite of feeling an extreme loathing
towards me. Instead, it was the opposite. To Cy, I was intriguing. I shrugged, trying to pretend I wasn’t irrationally pleased.
“If you want.”

He smiled then continued with his work. Despite the difficulty I
had focusing, I forced myself to get through the pages of data on my desk. My
mind kept wandering off, questioning why I felt so drawn to him. Cy wasn’t my
type. He was leaving. His lack of concert T’s told me that we likely had
nothing in common. But even then, I had a strong feeling that there was a
reason life had thrown us together.
