Blog Tour: Review of Finding it by Cora Carmack

Sometimes you have to lose yourself to find where you truly belong...

Most girls would kill to spend months traveling around Europe after college graduation with no responsibility, no parents, and no-limit credit cards. Kelsey Summers is no exception. She's having the time of her life . . . or that's what she keeps telling herself.

It's a lonely business trying to find out who you are, especially when you're afraid you won't like what you discover. No amount of drinking or dancing can chase away Kelsey's loneliness, but maybe Jackson Hunt can. After a few chance meetings, he convinces her to take a journey of adventure instead of alcohol. With each new city and experience, Kelsey's mind becomes a little clearer and her heart a little less hers. Jackson helps her unravel her own dreams and desires. But the more she learns about herself, the more Kelsey realizes how little she knows about Jackson.

Kathy says...

Kelsey Summers is a spoiled rich girl right out of college who is partying and sleeping her way through Europe.  She knows that she is "a real piece of work" by her own admission.  She owns it and she couldn't care less.  Along the way Kelsey keeps running into the mysterious Jackson Hunt.  He seems to always be around when she has hit rock bottom and she is at her worst.  Kelsey is looking for one night of passion, but Jackson has another plan.  After Jackson Hunt saves the day a few times they strike up a friendship and decide to travel together for one week..... One week for Kelsey to seduce him and one week for Jackson to help her find what she is looking for.

Kelsey is obviously searching for something.  She is drowning in pain and self doubt.  Traveling and visiting historical places finds Kelsey lamenting the lack of meaning in her life amongst a sea of injustice and lost opportunities.  She has reflections on others who never had the opportunities that she has had.  Jackson Hunt, the sexy USMC she is traveling with, has his own demons from his past to fight.  Together will they find the peace they seek and deserve?

The first 40% of the book was a bit slow for me.  I do think we could have used a condensed version of her many indiscretions in the beginning of the book, but they did serve a purpose to show Kelsey hit rock bottom.  Kelsey's character was hard to tolerate in the beginning.  She had very little redeeming qualities and although she was reflecting on her wasted life those thoughts were fleeting.  The story progressed very slowly for the first half of the book... and when you aren't liking the main character a slow story can feel much longer than it actually is.  Once she starts traveling with Jackson the real Kelsey starts to shine and we get to know and care for her character and watch her grow.  The banter between the two characters is entertaining and following their journey across Europe is enlightening.  The twist at the end was fairly predictable but made for a good story and a very sweet ending.

Although Finding it is third in the series behind Losing It and Faking It, there is no need to have read previous titles to read this one.  Finding It only briefly mentions Bliss from Losing It.

It is definitely a more emotional and meaningful book than the first two in the series.  It has a much more serious vibe than the preceding titles.

Although I give 3.5 stars for Finding It by Cora Carmack, I do love this series so I look forward to what is next for this group of interesting characters.

"Everyone deserves one grand adventure, that one time in life that we always get to point back to and say, Then... then I was really living."

"An adventure is an open window; and an adventurer is the person willing to crawl out on the ledge and leap.
