Review and Giveaway: Block 24 by Evan Tyler

Block 24 by Evan Tyler

A re-emergence of the past…

Natalie Clarke might be spiteful at best and vicious at worst, but was that reason enough for Phillip Gise to leave her lonely and diseased? Fortunately, she has a set of devious plans that just might keep her busy enough to forget her present situation.

Guy Lewis has played Best Friend Extraordinaire to Natalie since grade school, supporting her through all of her daily drama. This time around, Guy runs into his own troubles when his fierce, wealthy manager gives him the type of attention he never asked for…or expected.

Julia Clarke, Natalie’s younger sister, has arrived in Brooklyn to uncover their grandmother’s secret life in Block 24, the site of Auschwitz’s little-known brothel. What Julia discovers proves more relevant in the present age than ever before.

Both heady and sobering, Block 24 is a look at the ways evil from the past can so insidiously visit the present.
Jennifer's Review
I was given a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review. I am ecstatic that I was giving this opportunity. I was engrossed in this book I didn't want it to end. It's such a fascinating, heart stopping, heart breaking, make you stop breathing and hold your breath story that everyone must read.

The author does an AMAZING job intertwining the stories of two sisters, Natalie and Julia and Adina and Avigail. The story starts with Natalie and her perfect world. She has the perfect looks, her dream job, and the GQ boyfriend. But her relationship with her sister Julia is strained and they rarely speak. At the surface everything in Natalie's life is perfect until you start to dig deeper. She knows how to get what she wants and she will do it any way she can. Will it end up costing her friendships and loved ones in the end?

Julia is the sweet and innocent one. She is quiet but has that all American beauty look to her. That is part of Natalie's problem with her sister. For a project, she decides to record an interview with her grandmother Adina. What she gets is an amazing story of loss, strength, love, and heartbreak and you can survive hell and continue to lead a full life.

Adina and Avigials story starts in Polland during World War II. They are ripped from their families as the SS come in and destroy their lives. Adina and Avigial are separated from their mother and sent to Aushcwitz, a Nazi prison camp where they met and they both fall in love with a SS soldier named Hans. This part of the story is where I felt the writer's strength was. The depth of the emotions and heartbreak I felt for the two sisters was beyond gut wrenching. At the time, the sisters are only 18 and 14 and forced into the prostitution. It's so sad to hear Adina's story but then I admire her for the strength to get through it and be strong for her sister. Hans is their guardian angel as he watches over them to ensure they are treating better than other prisoners of war. He falls in love with one of the sisters as well and they make plans for an escape so they can live their lives together outside of the prison camp. Will they have the love to survive or will the casualties of war catch up to them??

I warn you this is not your regular love story, it heartbreaking but at the same time it's a story of survival. I would highly recommend this book and hope the story of Natalie and Julia continue as I believe there is much more to tell. If there were more than 5 stars available I would give it as this book deserves it!!
