Lines become crossed and reconstructed. Secrets are revealed, and infatuation is born. Will their connection be enough to paint themselves new, or will the truths of their lives be too stained to overcome.

Shannon’s 5 Star Review:

Truth in Watercolors  by Kimberly Rose
5 Luminous Stars

I was a lucky enough to be able to beta read Truth in Watercolors for Kimberly.  I absolutely adored her debut novel, Truth in Wildflowers, and just took it upon myself to insert myself into her life.
Watercolors should be read after Truth in Wildflowers as this book focuses on Wes, August's best friend, and Capri, August's sister. I loved Wes when we first met him and low and behold he stole my heart right away from August.

Wes is the hilarious, tatted up, charm-the-panties off you funny guy; he didn’t have the best childhood growing up but he didn’t have the worst either.  He had Blue and Blue loved that boy as if he was his own.  There was nothing Wes wouldn’t do for him. Wes, though, does like to keep his feelings to himself. He and August have always been close and while growing up he had a slight interest in his best friend’s sister but when they grow up and are working on a project tighter, Wes just may not be able to keep his feelings hidden much longer.
Capri is quiet, beautiful, and likes to fade into the background of life.  She doesn’t like to be noticed or to be the center of attention.  She, too, likes to keep her feelings to herself but she does have a release.  She paints, she paints beautiful pictures and quite a few of them are of her brother’s best friend, Wes. She has some secrets that don’t make their way to the canvas but eventually by working with Wes she’s able to bring them to light.

While they’re working together Capri is no longer able to blend into the background.  No longer able to be “white” she begins to come out of her shell and allow her true colors to shine.  Wes watches her grow and he thinks that maybe they can be what each other needs. But will Wes finally see that he’s capable of the love that Capri offers or will he just push her away as fast as he can?  Capri knows Wes is worth more than he’s given himself credit for and she just wants to be the one to show him how beautifully worthy of love he is.  Can she make him believe? Will he learn to love himself as much as he loves her? You will definitely want to read this series and see what all the beautiful is about.

I adore Kimberly and her writing.  She makes you feel every word she puts down on paper.  In this book you will see all the colors of the rainbow and you will feel them, as well.  She has a beautiful way of writing and you fall deep into her books.  I hope you take the time to read both books in the series.  They’re different, they’re real, the feelings are tangible, and the love is pure.  When you read this book I hope you feel like I do, Kimberly Rose is the epitome of the saying “the world is but a canvas to our imagination”.  I’m so thankful she shares her imagination with us.  I am impatiently awaiting Lennon’s story, I can’t wait to see what her Truth’s are.

EXCERPT:

The porch light flicked on. I tapped the steering wheel with my hands. Then the door creeped open slowly. A ray of light slipped through the crack, and then illuminated the figure in the doorway, like an angel.

With one step, the figure emerged from the light. Oh, fuck. I ducked under the dash. When did he get home? I clenched my eyes shut willing him to go back into the house. A few seconds passed, and then a solid knock hit my window.

I groaned and peeked up. Mr. Hunter stood with his arms crossed over his chest. I sighed and rolled down my window.

“Weston.”

“Mr. Hunter.”

“It’s Steve, Wes. I assume you are here looking for my daughter.”

“Yes, Mr. Hunter.” I nodded and sat up a little straighter.

He sighed. “When did you decide to start calling me Mr. Hunter?”

“Since I started having impure thoughts about your daughter,” I blurted out.

He didn’t say anything.

I didn’t say anything.

Crickets didn’t say anything. Say something, crickets!

“So, I’m guessing she’s not home?” I asked manning up to the crickets.

“No, Wes. She’s at August’s house watching a movie with Kensie.”

“Thank you, Mr. Hunter.” I nodded. “I’ll try there.” I reached down to crank my window up when his hand slammed onto the glass, holding it in place.

“And Wes? You’re like a son to me, but you break my baby girl’s heart and I’ll break those pretty, colorful arms. We clear?”

I nodded. “Yes, sir,” I agreed, and he dropped his hand from the glass. I rolled that window up as fast as I could and peaced out of that driveway. Mr. Hunter was clearly going to be a tough sell. I’d have to send him a fruit basket or something.
