From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the next new adult novel in the Rosemary Beach series, in which we meet Mase, a Texas heartthrob first introduced in Take a Chance who comes to Rosemary Beach to stir things up.

I had an urge to fix all her problems. Which was stupid. She was doing fine without me. But something about those big eyes…

Mase Colt-Manning has always preferred his humble life as a Texas rancher to his birthright as the son of a legendary rock star. In fact, he rarely visits his father’s rarefied world in Rosemary Beach, especially if it means bunking at his vile half-sister Nan’s house—until one visit leads to a chance encounter with a young, gorgeous house maid who awakens him with her off-key but spirited imitation of a country music star…

Reese Ellis finally has her freedom. After escaping a lifetime of abuse from her parents and classmates for an undiagnosed learning disorder, she seizes the opportunity to be a house maid to some of the richest families in Rosemary Beach. But her job is in jeopardy when she causes an accident at the home of her most important client, Nan Dillon. When a hot, half-naked stranger with a cowboy’s swagger comes to her rescue, she’s intrigued—then afraid once he shows his own interest. Reese has never met a trustworthy man in her life. Will Mase be any different?

SHANNON'S 5 STAR REVIEW:

5 Big as Texas Stars
We've caught glimpses of Mase Colt Manning in Abbi's previous books and what we've seen, we've loved.  Him getting his own story made me all giddy with feels.  I knew he was an overprotective brother, a sexy rancher, and Kiro Manning's son but when you add to that he's super intense, super sexy, puts everyone else above himself; you get yourself one hell of a book boyfriend.

While Mase is staying at Nan's -  his half sister and the most hated woman in Rosemary Beach - house he was taken aback  by the beauty who was cleaning her house.  She was tall, sexy, a bad singer, she had cute little freckle right under her butt cheek, and she stopped him dead in his tracks.  He was immediately drawn to Reese. He seen in her someone he would like to get to know better, he seen the hurt and pain in her eyes that she tried to hide to everyone.  The closer they became the more he was sure she had secrets but just wasn't sure how terrible the secrets were.
Reese had a terrible childhood and even worse teenage years.  She was abused by her parents, people at school, and the school itself.  She had some disabilities that were never diagnosed and just added to the terrible hand of cards she was dealt.  She learned at an early age that if she didn't take care of herself, then no one else would either.  She moved away as soon as she possibly could and wound up in Rosemary Beach cleaning houses for the rich and spoiled.  It was at one of her clients houses that she met the one man she thought she might finally trust.  Mase Manning was a tall drink of water, all dark, sexy, and overpowering. When he saves her from the wretched wickedness that is Nan, Reese finds herself thinking of Mase more and more.
Mase and Reese start out as friends. He truly cares about her and wants to help her better herself.  Mase basically takes charge of her life.  Getting her the help she should have had as a child, makes sure she has rides to and from work, and again saving her from Nan. Mase and Reese become closer and they start taking their friendship to other levels but when Reese slams on the brakes and then she breaks down, Mase realizes there is more hurt and pain than he first thought. He doesn't know how deep and dark her pain is but he knows he will never let her deal with it on her own ever again.
While Mase tries to help Reese, he's leaving his duties behind in Texas, along with a friend with benefits. So when Reese sees a text on Mase's phone about said friend, she kicks Reese out of her house and out of her life; Mase leaves but not without a fight. Unfortunately, a lot of loneliness and sadness ensues on both  their parts.
Someone unexpected takes matters in their own hands and tries to show Reese the error of her ways. Reese knows that Mase has a life in Texas, will she give up her life go to him? Will he come to her? Would he ever be able to leave his life in Texas behind? More importantly, can Reese leave her past in the past where it belongs and finally move on?
Abbi has a way of writing about broken characters and putting them back together with the help and love of the stronger characters.  In my opinion, both Mase and Reese were both strong in When I'm Gone.  She had to raise and take care of herself and deal with the hurt and torture of the abuse she suffered at the hands of people who were suppose to care about her. There was not a lot of weakness emanating from Reese and I am so glad that she was written as tough gal who kept landing on her feet no matter how many blows she took.
Mase has officially knocked Rush Finlay out of 1st place on my Abbi Glines book boyfriend list!

Abbi Glines is a #1 New York TimesUSA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of the Rosemary Beach, Sea Breeze, Vincent Boys, and Existence series. She has a new YA series coming out in the fall of 2015 titled The Field Party Series . She never cooks unless baking during the Christmas holiday counts. She believes in ghosts and has a habit of asking people if their house is haunted before she goes in it. She drinks afternoon tea because she wants to be British but alas she was born in Alabama. When asked how many books she has written she has to stop and count on her fingers. When she’s not locked away writing, she is reading, shopping (major shoe and purse addiction), sneaking off to the movies alone, and listening to the drama in her teenagers lives while making mental notes on the good stuff to use later. Don’t judge.

You can connect with Abbi online in several different ways. She uses social media to procrastinate.
