Review: Breathe Into Me by Sara Fawkes

How did my life get so broken?  It’s a question Lacey St. James asks herself every day.  Stuck raising her little brother in a trailer park while she works a dead end job at a grocery store, she has a stalker exboyfriend, a bad reputation, and no way out.

And then, she meets Everett, who changes her entire existence.

Everett is an outsider who’s housesitting his family’s mansion off the coast, and for reasons Lacey can’t understand, he’s completely transfixed by her. He seems determined to show her that life can offer more than she’d ever hoped for, if only she believes in herself.  She desperately yearns to trust him, but what happens when she finds out that everything he’s told her is a lie?

Elle says

Breathe Into Me by Sara Fawkes is an emotional roller coaster that will break you down from the beginning only to piece you back together by the very end. This story has it all – romance, steamy scenes, drama, and an abundance of heartbreak.

My heart absolutely shattered for Lacey St. James. She faced obstacle after obstacle and could never seem to get a break in life. I loved that no matter how difficult her life got she never broke. She is resilient and a fighter, never settling for the rock bottom she is surrounded by each day. Then she meets Everett and it’s as if her luck changes. He becomes a force of stability in her life. At the same time there’s something unknown and mysterious about him. Their connection is electric and lends itself to some rather steamy scenes as well as a number of playful moments between the pair. His pursuit of her romantically and through a friendship based foundation definitely made me swoon.

Oh the plot. This novel is anything but tame and gentle. There is tumultuous drama and plenty of backstabbing and shady characters. As I said before my heart broke repeatedly for Lacey. It was shocking just how far characters would go to destroy her and keep her submissive to their whims. As each twist was revealed and the story unfolded, I couldn’t help but get sucked in. The ending was every bit as satisfying as the ups and downs during the story.

If you’re looking for a drama packed read that would draw you in and keep you engaged, pick up your copy of Breathe Into Me by Sara Fawkes. You’re going to ache alongside Lacey, fall in love with Everett, and be captivated by this fantastic novel.
