KALEIDOSCOPE by Kristen Ashley
(February 4, 2014; Forever E-Book; $3.99)

Sexy, gifted, and loyal, PI Jacob Decker is a tall, cool drink of perfection who had Emmanuelle Holmes at "hello." His relationship with Emme's best friend kept them apart for years, but things have changed. Now that a case has brought him to Gnaw Bone, Colorado, the road is wide open for Emme and Deck to explore something hotter and deeper than Emme dreamed possible. So why is she sabotaging the best thing that's ever happened to her?

It isn't easy to catch Deck off guard, but Emme does just that when she walks back into his life after nine long years. The curvy brunette had her charms back in the day, but now she's a bona fide knockout . . . and she wants to rekindle their friendship. Deck, however, wants more. Emme's always been the one; she excites Deck's body and mind like no other woman can. But a dark chapter from Emme's past overshadows their future together. Now only Deck can help her turn the page-if she'll let him . . .

Breathe by Kristen Ashley is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE BOOKS - so when I heard that we were getting a continuation with Deck (Chace's best private investigator friend) I was OVER. THE. MOON.  I always know that with Kristen Ashley I'm going to get a smart, sexy, sensitive, alpha guy.  Jacob Decker (Deck) definitely did not disappoint in Kaleidoscope (book 6 in the Colorado Mountain Series).

Jacob is called in to the Gnaw Bone on special assignment for the local police department.  Working in conjunction with Chace he is tasked with bringing down a burglary ring that has been victimizing residents.  The moment he hears Emme's voice Jacob recognizes the blast from the past.  Only this time he isn't going to let Emme walk away with his heart, leaving him only with a kaleidoscope.

"Been to some interesting places, Emme, baby, and that has always been with me." ~Jacob Decker, Kaleidoscope by Kristen Ashley

Emme has always secretly loved Jacob.  Unfortunately something has always been in the way of their love story. Until Now.  Emme isn't the same girl she was back then.  Now she has a new confidence to go after what she wants.  What she wants (and has always wanted) is Jacob Decker.

I really love a good friends to lovers story.  Emme and Jacob were great friends.  It was easy for them to catch up and fall right into place even after so many years.  They had the same interests and had fun just being together.  They didn't have to go do anything fancy to have a good time together.  I loved all the little quirks - how Emme was the only one who called him Jacob instead of his nickname Deck, and how Jacob came in and started making sure Emme was safe in her huge home renovation project.

"His eyes lit with warmth and humor and I lost my fascination with his lashes because I'd seen that look in his eyes frequently when he was with me but I'd never seen it that close and it was so beautiful, I wanted to hold onto that moment for eternity."  ~Emme, Kaleidoscope by Kristen Ashley

This book was somewhat light on the mystery and action we normally find in Kristen Ashley books but I only missed it a bit.  The sweetness of the book overshadowed the loss and made for a great book.  Emme and Jacob both have past heartache to overcome but together they heal each other and rediscover a great friendship and an even greater love.  4 Stars for Kaleidoscope!

"I don't know where I would be right now without you... you have to know, you have to know that I'd be alone, lost alone forever, if I didn't have you." ~Emme, Kaleidoscope by Kristen Ashley

About the author:

Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana, and has lived in Denver, Colorado, and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multigenerational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland, and Kristen grew up listening to the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Whitesnake. Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music and love was a good way to grow up.  And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.
