Review: Music of the Soul by Katie Ashley, A Runaway Train Novella

In Music of the Heart, an unexpected twist of fate caused Abby Renard to fall into womanizer Jake Slater’s bed. What started out as a small spark between the unlikely pair, grew into a deep and intense love. After a year-long engagement, the two have finally been able to set a wedding date. It’s off to Mexico for a destination ceremony on a private beach. After a heated week long honeymoon in a tropical paradise, the two return to the real world of touring and making music together.

As the newlyweds settle into married life, another twist of fate challenges their love. For once, Abby isn’t able to be the rock of strength that Jake needs. Can the two of them hold on to the strong foundation of love they have built, or will it crumble under the pressure?

Elle says...

Music of the Soul revisits Jake Slater and Abby Renard, the characters we fell in love with in the first Runaway Train Series novel, Music of the Heart. The couple is preparing to say “I do” and start their life as husband and wife.

I fell in love with Abby and Jake when the series first began, and they’ve been one of my favorite book couples ever since. It was nice to journey back and see just what this duo has been up to. The story also gives insight into the other characters we’ve met in the series. Overall this is a tender, lighthearted novella with moderate turbulence and an ending that left me joyfully satisfied. Just like their past was full of obstacles, their present isn’t always rainbows and unicorns. It was authentic and comforting to read about Jake and Abby’s trials and challenges. Relationships are dynamic, always changing and thus are something people must constantly work at. Katie definitely stayed true to her characters, her series, and real life struggles many couples face.

Continue Jake and Abby’s journey with Music of the Soul, and follow their adventure down the aisle and into wedded bliss. Once again Katie Ashley has given readers a well-rounded heartwarming slice of literary perfection. Now I’m even more excited for the next book in the Runaway Train Series.
