Blog Tour: Review of Thrash (Bayonet Scars #2) by J.C. Emery

Loneliness suffocates the heart. Acceptance breaks down walls.

As a Lost Girl to the Forsaken Motorcycle Club, Nicole Whelan knows how to party. She’s not cut-out for relationships and her life is way too complicated for anything more than casual encounters. But one night when she falls into Duke’s bed at the clubhouse, he sees something in her that he can’t let go of—no matter how many times she tries to run.

Having been left to raise her teenage brother, Jeremy, she’s already got her hands full and isn’t looking for anymore complications. But Duke’s just watched his best friend fall for the only girl he couldn’t have, and then almost lose her so shortly after, shaking him to his core. Faced with his own loneliness, he’s more determined than ever to break down Nic’s walls and show her that he can be good for her; but he’s got a bad track record and she’s got a bad temper. Changing his ways isn’t easy when he’s not sure what he’s even changing for.

The violence and turmoil are at an all-time high, and Forsaken is in a vulnerable place when a twist of fate breathes new life into the club. It’s a much-needed beacon of hope for the embattled biker family, even if everyone’s not exactly on board. With Duke and Nic’s relationship already on shaky ground, and something even more important at stake, the Forsaken Motorcycle Club will fight like hell to keep their family together and whole.

Love is never more precious than when it’s new.

I was so excited to read Thrash because I loved Ride so much and I was not disappointed! At first I was hoping that book 2 would be a continuation Ryan and Cub's story but the way the author write Duke and Nicole's story to take place during the same time period was brilliant! Not only did I get to enjoy their story but I also got Duke's POV of Ryan and Cub's journey!

Before reading this book you need to have read the first book because you wouldn't understand half of the book. If you don't like the words fuck, cock or pussy, don't read this book. If you don't like a bit of violence or even killing, don't read this book. If you don't like sex scenes to be hot and a bit raunchy, don't read this book.

Duke is an asshole, plain and simple. He knows it and doesn't hide it either. He has had the thing for Nicole since she was a freshman and he was a senior in high school but just never made a real move on her. And every time he tried when she became a Lost Girl at the club, she shot him down. When he finally has her, he just keeps fucking up and fucking up bad.

Her silence is so quiet that it makes the entire room feel sad and lonely. Or maybe that’s me, because when I’m near her, I just want to be closer. If she’s standing next to me, I want to touch her. If she’s in my lap, I want her naked. If she’s bitching at me, I want my dick inside her. It never seems to be enough and I wonder if it ever will be. - Duke

Nicole has never felt good about herself. Never thought that she was worth anything. Never good enough. Her dad left her when she was two, her deadbeat mom left her and her brother with her stepdad and then he went to jail when she was 17 leaving her to raise her little brother all by herself. When she went to the club house when she was 19, she became a Lost Girl.  And she was a lost girl in every way. She felt worthless and lost. She was just sick of the cards that she was dealt. But she just can't stay away from Duke.

Everything about him and this situation is painful. From the first time I saw him and he looked right through me, to the years he spent sleeping around and bragging about every Brenda, and Amy, and Mandie he hooked up with, to us finally hooking up, to every fight, and every soft moment. It just hurts. And I don’t think relationships are supposed to be this hard or this painful, so I give up. - Nicole

OMG this book is good. At times Nicole's pain was so palpable my entire chest hurt. She had so many things stacked up against her but she kept going. Every day, she kept going. She is so strong and bad-ass and every time something is thrown at her she doesn't back down when most people would have given up a long time ago. I think that she is my favorite female character of all time. She can take anything thrown at her and that is why her and Duke work. Because he needs that in a women. He needs a women that won't take his shit and will put him in his place.

... she leans over and places a kiss on my cheek so fucking softly that it makes me feel almost nervous. Nic isn’t soft and she isn’t gentle. My girl’s hell on wheels with a bottle of Jack and her middle finger up in the air-- at least with me she is. But this moment makes me want to give her gentle. I want to show her that not everything has to be loud and abrasive. The quiet is nice, too. - Duke

J.C. Emery, give me more!  Give me more!!!!!

5 HUGE STARS!!!!!!

Raunchy California at it’s finest. Fort Bragg looks like your quintessential small town until you realize it is run by the Forsaken Motorcycle Club, it has been this way for a couple of generations. Now the younger set has grown and have earned their vests and are falling in love with very strong women. In book one Trigger (Ryan) has found his Princess (Alex). In book two Duke (Joshua) will try to claim Nic (Nicole). They have both been crushing on each other for years but Nic will have none of it. Duke being the bad-ass alpha that he is totally screws up and has to redeem himself more than once.

JC Emery has a great talent. She weaves the book to be concurrent with the first in the series. You will definitely have that aha moment a few times. It is done seamlessly without going over the events in an overdone fashion. It does not feel like you are reading book one all over again, just filling in gaps that you didn’t realize were missing. Personally I love book two more than one. The book zeroed in on the relationship between Duke and Nic with little outside interferences. You get a great feel of what they felt and thought as the story progressed. She has nailed the biker language down as well without it feeling too contrived. You will get a chuckle from some the one liners.  You will also meet up with a lot of the characters from book one and feel like you are visiting with old friends. I would love to know if any more books will be added to the series.

JC Emery has earned a spot on my auto-buy list and my one-click finger is itching for more.

A hot steamy 5 out of 5 stars.

As a child, JC was fascinated by things that went bump in the night. As they say, some things never change. Now, as an adult, she divides her time between the sexy law men, mythical creatures, and kick-ass heroines that live inside her head and pursuing her bachelor's degree in English. JC is a San Francisco Bay Area native, but has also called both Texas and Louisiana home. These days she rocks her flip flops year round in Northern California and can't imagine a climate more beautiful.

JC writes adult, new adult, and young adult fiction. She dabbles in many different genres including science fiction, horror, chick lit, and murder mysteries, yet she is most enthralled by supernatural stories-- and everything has at least a splash of romance.
