~Synopsis~

Zar Evans is not your typical high school senior; in fact she is anything by normal. Dressing to the trendiest Goth fashion, Zar wears nothing but black from head to toe. Not that this warrants unwanted attention, but she is also top in her class and is looking at a full academic scholarship to Iowa State in the fall.

Loudon Clarke is an all star athlete. He plays three varsity sports and has the world in his hands. Except for one thing; Loudon is failing majority of his subjects. He is about to be suspended from the basketball team risking his athletic scholarship.

Zar and Loudon would normally never cross paths, until these two are brought together when Zar’s brother proposes to Loudon’s sister. With an upcoming wedding and a lot of planning Zar and Loudon are stuck with one another regardless of their differences.

Zar has hidden behind the pain she deals with on a daily basis for years. Loudon has never had to feel pain nor the ignorance of his peers. Can opposites really bring these two together or will they be pulled even further apart.

Only one thing is for sure, it is impossible to fight the connection of pierced love when one is willing to change for happiness.

~Excerpt~

“Ugh!” I shout and pull the while cover over my face. “I’m sorry you had to come here to check on stupid me.” “Come on Zar, don’t hide from me. If I didn’t want to be here I wouldn’t be. Don’t push me away again. I thought we were in this together, you told me you would try. Don’t give up on me.”

I can feel his hand above the cover as he pulls it down to see me. He has a good point. I doubt anyone forced him to be here and the way it looks he’s here alone.
“I’m sorry for doubting you Loudon. There’s so much about me that you don’t know. This is just a big part of a million piece jumbo puzzle that is my messed up life. I wouldn’t fault you if you ran from me right now. I don’t want to pull you down with me. It’s a dark pit and sometimes I don’t know how I’ll ever get out.”

Jenn says...

I've read TH Synder's other novels that are in the romance genre and when I found out she was doing a YA novel, it piqued my interest. This novel touches on a sensitive subject of bullying and I give a huge BRAVO to the author for addressing and bringing it out in the open. I'm sure many teens or adults have been on the receiving end of this horrible subject and it refreshing to have an author address it and show you can work past it. There is light at the end of the tunnel where you feel like you are drowning in darkness. One day you may be the happy go lucky girl and several events change you life forever and you find yourself being the outcast.

Zar is that girl that I just described. She was happy and one day and a turn of events find her lonely and in her own world. She quickly becomes the outcast and feels like she is falling under. Her panic attacks are becoming more frequent and even though she is the top student in her class, she is just an outsider. Until one chance meeting she has with the most popular guy at the neighboring high school. Loundon meets Zar in passing but for days both are consumed of thoughts of the other person. As luck would have it, they are thrown together at a family function and quickly form a bond. When Loundon is around, Zar is able to feel like her old self. She feels like she can breath. They are so different but both feel so comfortable around each other. At the big high school game, Zar's secret of being the outcast is thrown out for all to see. Its heartbreaking and something many girls can identify with.

Will Loundon be the one to pull Zar out of the darkness and bring her back to the life she once knew or will Zar have that self doubt of if she is deserves to be happy. When Zar's secret is exposed to her family is she able to work through it? You will need to read to find out. Its a wonderful story of self discovery and again touches on some very serious issues. Everyone can learn from Zar's journey.
