What Jennifer Says....

I was replied to a posting in a group looking for reviewers for an upcoming release.  There was no blurb, no info on what author it was, just a new author is about to release and who wants to review.  Well I am all about helping the new author so I volunteered.  I am so happy that I did!  That book was Songbird and I absolutely fell in love with the characters and their story!  I wanted that HEA for Tara as she so deserved it but who she should have this HEA with is another story!  I am so conflicted in my own thoughts that I’m like… damn Lisa has me loving the guy I should hate!  How is that possible!?!  But it is…  I am a sucker for a good love story and this is one I fell in love with.  It’s funny, clever, sexy, and has multiple hot leading men!

We start with our lead character Tara in a broken relationship with the appropriately named ex-boyfriend, Shithead.  He is a true ass and so happy he was gone quickly.  Tara left him when she soon discovered she had become a shell of a person she used to be.   With the help of her friend Kelli, she was able to get on her own two feet and become the young women she used to be. Through another friend find a karaoke bar “Songbirds” and they quickly decide it’s their favorite place to be.  She rediscovers her love of music and is able to start playing piano there a couple of times a week.

The owner of Songbirds is Marcus. He has the shaggy, just out of bed hair that looks effortless, sparkling eyes, and damn it... dimples!  But when he is introduced by the girls hairdresser, Jason, they assume he plays for the other team and don’t take any notice to his friendly matter. He is the guy friend you love to have.  He is easy to be around but don’t feel threated by him thinking he is going to make a play on them because, well he is very good friends with Jason.  So they assume…   Part of getting on her own two feet is hitting the gym.  While working out, there is one guy… Mr Hotbod that catches her Tara’s attention.  He has the lean gym body defined body without being all bulk.  Every time Tara sees him she gets those butterflies but does not act on them.  She would just rather watch from afar for now…

When Kelli’s boyfriend Cooper comes home on leave (he is active military) he brings with his best friend Riley.  Oh yes… the tall, dark, and fuckable handsome with the most beautiful blue eyes piece of man candy is hard to resist!  When Tara and him meet they have that instant connection.  She assumes he has girlfriends all over the county with the way he looks but she quickly discovers he falls for her just as hard and because of his military career, he doesn’t do relationships. They fall fast and hard for each other.  Because they only have short periods of time together, there is lots of hotness going on! The author does a great job with these scenes as even though they are not full details of the act, you get that sense of hotness going on.  It was just the right amount.

While Riley and Cooper are away at a training exercise, Tara and Kelli decide to head out for a night on the town.  They hit up a nightclub but decide they wanted to see a live band.  Turns out the club they go to has multiple floors and they had a live band playing.  Tara knows the guitarist, Jay, and heads up towards the front of the stage.  To the girls surprise, they quickly learn that the lead singer is no other than Mr Hotbod from the gym.  He is that stereotypical Rock God.  He loves the ladies and they love him.  He oozes sex appeal on the stage and the ladies eat it up!  After the set, Jay and Tara have a minute to catch up and that’s when Mr Hotbod aka Cole makes her appearance.  He is so cocky and arrogant I loved it!   With Tara’s ties to Songbirds, she is able to help get them a regular spot there.

With Riley being gone so much, Tara makes herself busy at Songbirds.  The banter between her and Cole fantastic!  There is so much sexual tension between and the innuendos fly back and forth and I’m like, just get together all ready!  But nothing happens since she is with Riley.   I found myself rooting for Cole.  I’m not quite sure why, but I just loved the chemistry they have together!  I think it’s my soft spot for the Rock Gods…  hmmmmmm… maybe!

When a misunderstanding tears Tara and Riley’s relationship apart, both Marcus and Cole are there to pick up the pieces.  But when Riley comes back, will Tara take him back?  Will Marcus or Cole see the open door and make their moves?  Or will Tara just decide she needs time to discover herself??  You just need to read to find out…    I would highly recommend reading this and love any book with a good love triangle or square!  I am dying to read the next book to see how the rest of the story unfolds!

I helped bus the tables as I was pretty useless at pulling beers. I had lost track of time when I felt my phone buzz in my skirt pocket. I raced into the back room and just managed to answer the call in time. It was Riley and my heart melted at the sound of his voice.
“Where are you?” he asked, obviously able to hear the band playing in the background.
I told him excitedly about catching up with Jay and lining up the band to meet Marcus, and how I was now bussing tables at the bar. For some reason I felt the need to avoid mentioning Cole. But Riley could hear him singing in the background and commented on his voice.
“Ah, yep he does have a great voice,” I said, feeling guilty when I hadn’t done anything to feel guilty about.
Then I changed the subject and asked Riley what he had been up to. We had only been speaking for about fifteen minutes when the band stopped for a break, and then the door opened and Cole was standing there.
He could see I was on the phone but didn’t seem to care, as he came in and pulled off his sweat soaked t-shirt, before rummaging in a bag and pulling out a clean one.
I looked at his shirtless body in awe. Not only did he have the full sleeve of tattoos up his left arm, but he had angel wings, or was that eagle wings across his shoulder blades.
He turned around to face me and saw me looking at him, so stood still and cockily held his arms out to the sides so I could get a good look, watching my expression.
I couldn’t help it, I exhaled loudly at the sight of his ripped body.
Finally, I managed to tear my eyes away from his amazing body and turn my back to him. I heard him chuckle softly. Then realising that the bar would be busy with people buying drinks now that the band was on a break, I reluctantly told Riley I would have to go.
“I’ll see you in a week,” Riley said as he was getting ready to hang up. “I miss you babe, I think about you all the time.”
“I miss you too,” I said quietly into the phone. “I love you. See you next week.”
“I love you too.” Then he was gone.
“Hmm, I take it that wasn’t your mum,” Cole said. “Boyfriend not around at the moment?” he asked with a smirk.
“He’s in the army, based in Sydney,” I replied as I headed for the door.
“Must get lonely,” he said with a glint in his eye as he pulled his clean shirt on over his head.
