Blog Tour: Review of All The Pretty Lies by M. Leighton

About ALL THE PRETTY LIES:

All the Pretty Lies
“Live, no regrets”

Her…
Sloane Locke has led a sheltered life.  However, with a history like hers, she can understand why her brothers and her father want so much to protect her.  She has gone along with it for twenty long years, but those days are over.  For the girl who never makes promises, Sloane has made a pact with herself that things will change on her twenty-first birthday.  So when the clock strikes midnight, Sloane strikes out to spread her wings and break a few rules.

Him…
In addition to inking skin, Hemi Spencer possesses many talents. Controlling himself has never been one of them.  It’s never had to be.  He’s lived a life of indulgence for as long as he can remember.  Right up until tragedy struck.  Now, he’s nothing but controlled. He’s a man on a mission, one who will let nothing and no one stand in his way.

Them…
Nothing in their lives could’ve prepared Sloane and Hemi for what they’d find in each other—distraction and obsession, love and possession.  But the one thing they can’t find is a future.  Neither one has been totally honest.  And they’ll soon learn that the devil is in the details.  In the details and in the lies.

How far will two people go to live in the now when the now is all they’ve got?

Let me just start by saying when I heard M Leighton was doing a standalone I was like, I need this book like yesterday!!  I am a huge fan and love her books from the Blood Like Poison series to the Bad Boys series… sigh… I still miss my Cash and Nash fix!  But, now back to All the Pretty Lies… It’s such a great book that had me turning the pages to see what happens next and love that its one complete book!!  M Leighton knows how to read about a leading man and Hemi will not disappoint!!  I love how she always brings an element of suspense to her novels and has me guessing what’s next and does not let go of me until the last page!

We start with Sloane Locke on her 21st birthday.  She has lived under the roof of the Locke men long enough and now she is ready to make a statement.  Her father and her three brothers are all cops so its like she has been living under their watchful eye her entire life! She decides to get a tattoo to express her well-deserved freedom and she happens to pick the tattoo parlor ran by Hemi, the uber sexy mysterious tattoo artist that oozes sex appeal and just a mysterious as well.   She brings a drawing for him to tattoo and he is impressed by the level of artistry.   It is an original design drawn by Sloane herself.   He conveniences her that she should look into becoming tattoo artist as her talent was exceptional.  She wants him to mentor her but he does not babysit.  He is there for one thing and one thing only… but that as well is a mystery.

Hemi is not into young college girls, he loves older women who knows what they want.  Not the college girls that are young and inexperienced.   When he sees Sloane out having an argument with her older brother, he sees an opportunity to a piece of the missing puzzle he is trying to solve.  He approaches Sloane the next day and agrees to mentor her.  He only does it because of the connection to her brother but he soon learns what the heart wants is not always what is right.  The more time Hemi and Sloane spend together, the more he wants her.  Sloane has always been attracted to Hemi but he wants to keep her at arm’s length.   They are both falling for each other but of course, that when all things go wrong.   When Sloane overhears a phone call from Hemi, her world come crashing down.  The secrets he’s been working so hard to hide become exposed and bring everything that he has with Sloane with it.

But just when you thought that was it, Sloane has her own secrets she has been hiding.   When Hemi discovers Sloane secrets will it be too late for them.   Will his own secrets keep Sloane from ever trusting him.  Will both their secrets keep them from finding happiness??  You need to read to find out!! It will be so worth it!

“I don’t want promises.  Most of the time, promises are just pretty lies.  They’re words designed to make other feel better.  But in the end, they’re still just lies.  Disappointing lies.”

5+ Stars!

First off I am a huge fan of Michelle Leighton. The Wild Ones has been my number one book from her up until now. All The Pretty Lies blew me away!

Hemi, 28 year old, tattooed, 68 cameo driving, aviator sunglass wearing, Hemi. He is your bad boy to the core, and I am head over heels for him! Hemi has been on a mission for about two years to bring justice for someone close to him… and he will not let anything stand in his way.

Sloane is a senior in college, majoring in art. She just turned 21 and decided it’s time to take over her life. Her mom died when Sloane was 7 years old from Leukemia, which was a BIG hit to her family. Being the baby sister and daughter, of three older brothers and dad who are all cops has been hard on her. She’s basically been locked away in her ivory tower her whole life. Well not anymore.

Just minutes after she turns 21 she takes her best friend Sarah with her to get a tattoo. Her tattoo artist just so happens to be Hemi. Immediately there is spark when they meet. Hemi knows he doesn’t have time for the virginal Sloane and yes, he can tell she is virginal in every way. He likes his women a bit experienced...
“Since the ripe old age of fourteen, when I nailed my first piece of cougar ass, I’ve always preferred experienced women. The wilder the better. I’ve never taken a girl’s virginity, nor do I want to. I want a woman who knows what she wants and how to get it. And one who knows where the door is before I get out of the bathroom”

but there is just something about Sloane that he can’t shake.

After a few visits to get the tattoo finished Hemi warns Sloane he’s not good for her and to stay away. Both have major secrets that could be a huge hit to their relationship if and when those secrets come out. Does she listen? Does he listen to himself? Of course not. They get busy mixing business with pleasure.
“I may not be able to give you breakfasts and promises but I can give you pleasure like you’ve never even dreamed of. That will have to be enough”

“I don’t want promises. Most of the time, promises are just pretty lies. They’re word designed to make others feel better. But in the end, they’re still just lies. Disappointing lies. So don’t worry about making me promises. I’d rather have your truth”
Now after they mix everything up, will someone or something get in their way? Be ready for a wild ride that will keep you guessing until the end. Tons of mystery, suspense, and steamy scenes. What Michelle Leighton book would it be if you didn’t get a bar/shots scene? Bring on the Tequila Shots *fans self*!! You get the best of everything!

This story is one you MUST read! I’m hoping we will get more on Hemi’s siblings. Sloane’s siblings and her Dad in this series. Their characters intrigued me quite a bit and now I need more! Oh and one last thing…. I’m sending my husband to buy us a sauna and he’s only allowed to enter if he has a bucket filled with bottles of water and ice…. ;)
