Jennifer D.'s Review

Let's go back in time a little bit, 1971 to be exact. The Place is the Deep South where the KKK and racism is still alive and going strong. In the town of Tulma Tennessee it's a well-known fact that white stay with the whites and African-American's stay with African-Americans. There are still cross burnings and crimes against those who go against the KKK and their beliefs.

Try telling that to Caroline.... When she first met Isaiah Washington she did not see the color his skin. She only saw the beautiful person he was inside. They would walk home together every day and spend hours on the phone every night. But that was the extent of their relationship. Caroline's family would not allow her to date someone like Isaiah. Caroline herself practically takes care of them and herself. Her father is a drunk and her mother is never home. It comes a time where her Father leaves for good and never comes back. Her mom was a past Miss Tennessee and because of that she thinks she is entitled. She is never there and leaves Caroline to fend for herself days on end. To say everything and everyone is against her is an understatement.

This such a wonderful heartbreaking story that pulled at my heart strings and made you look past the color boundary and remind you that love is color free... there is no black or white... only love. It makes you look into the mirror to see if you can love without color rules. This book also brought so many emotions out in me. I was angry at her Mom and Dad for being the worst parents ever. I felt like I was punched in the gut when Caroline had something unimaginable happen to her. Then I felt the strength and courage that Caroline had to move forward. When it seemed that the whole world was coming down on her, she always pushed on, she didn't give up. She never allowed the situation to bring her down. I was rooting for Caroline and Isaiah the whole time and wanted them to be together even though it seemed like at every turn the world was working against them. You must read the book to see if they are able to have the HEA they deserve or if circumstances of being from two different worlds keep them apart.

Willow Aster does such exceptional job writing about several sensitive subjects. I was so drawn into Caroline's story that I never wanted it to end. I wanted to be there to hold her hand and give her a huge bear hug! All the characters felt like I have known them for years and any boundaries of color were lost. The is such a magnificent story of a girl who finds who way and is so wise beyond her years. She can teach all us a lesson about living life and loving without looking at the color of ones skin. I highly recommend this book and would give it 5 huge stars!!!

Jennifer M.'s Review
This is a story of love, heartbreak, and a forbidden romance. Willow Aster is a master storyteller and entwines fiction with reality. She captures your heart with her poetic writing. You will fall in love with Caroline and be lost in her story.
Caroline is a teenage girl growing up in Tulma, Tennessee during the early 1970's. She has a selfish mother whose only concern is people's opinions and Caroline's looks. Caroline's father is an alcoholic and is absent. She wishes for a normal family, one that will love her unconditionally.
Isaiah and Caroline meet at school, and their connection is immediate. You feel so deeply for these characters and you are completely consumed with their story.
All she wants to do is be able to love freely, but unfortunately society does not accept interracial couples. If only love could be that simple. If only people could realize that love has no boundaries, it is not defined by color.
OMG this book had me crying, praying, and completely consumed. I was so emotional, it is hard to put into words what Willow's writing does to me. She's incredibly gifted and will have you glued to your kindle until the very end.
I had a hard time keeping this review spoiler free. There were so many beautiful words spoken that I would love to share. You will be caught up in a timeless love story that will remain in your heart for years to come.
