Wow, that was one hell of a ride! I absolutely loved J.A. Redmerski’s other book, “The Edge of Never” so I was excited to read this book. I must warn you, this book is nothing like her other book, it is dark, gritty, captivating, and just utterly fantastic! This is not a book to devour, you need to savor it.

Sarai has spent the last nine years held captivity by a drug lord, Javier, in Mexico. The nine years in captivity has taught her to become numb to killing, rape, and drugs. Her way out comes in the form of Victor, a hitman who has come to the compound to meet with Javier. I completely admired Sarai and her strength and drive for survival. She has held in so much for way too long so when she finally breaks down it is heartbreaking. I loved the girl that Sarai became by the end of the book. She is definitely kick-ass!

Victor was intriguing right from the get-go. He is a sexy, very alpha-male, filthy rich, and a mysterious hitman. He had been recruited to be part of The Order from an early age. The lifestyle as a hitman does not allow for any sort of friendship or relationship. He doesn’t trust anyone AND IS always questioning people’s motives. He risked his life by keeping Sarai with him which also goes against everything that he believes. Sarai was able to get close to him unlike anyone else has besides his brother.
“This goes against everything that I am, Sarai,” he says and then kisses me. “No, it doesn’t,” I whisper and kiss him back. “It’s you becoming more of who you really are.”
This book is not your typical romance novel, it is more of a slow burn. This book has so much intensity and twists and turns I did not see coming. I also loved that the book was told in dual POVs, which I am a huge fan of. On a side note, there is a cliffhanger at the end, but it is not bad.
