Let me start with a warning: This is book four in a series. This is my review of book four, and I’m being very careful not to give any spoilers of book FOUR, but I make no promises of not giving spoilers of the previous three books. In fact, I guarantee to spoil the hell of them. I’m sorry for that in advance. If you haven’t read the previous novels: “The Siren”, “The Angel”, and “The Prince”... I’m not even sure why you are reading this, and not out buying them on Amazon and reading right now. Now, it is time to move on to the review.
There are few books or in this case series, that have left me reeling. I read The Siren shortly after discovering the erotica genre. I have to say it pretty much pushed every limit of comfort I had. I kind of hated it. But I found myself thinking of it constantly. I couldn’t put the characters out of my mind. I was disturbed. I loved them, I hated them, I wanted to find out what happened to them. I swore I would NOT read the next book. I think that lasted about a week before my tortured mind bought The Angel on Amazon and devoured it. THAT was my first experience with male/male erotica/romance. I swore I hated it as well. But again, I thought about it, loved it, hated it, couldn’t get the characters out of my mind. To date, the couple in this story is one of my all time favorite couples. Book three blows your mind with revelations that you never see coming! Why am I telling you all of this when I am supposed to be reviewing The Mistress? I have no clue my mind is all over the place, that is what Tiffany Reisz does to you. She fills your mind with this world of BDSM erotica, and a love story so overwhelming, that it will blow your mind.
The Mistress was so highly anticipated by me, that I was practically shaking when I found out I was getting an advanced copy to review. For years, I have been wondering if Nora will decide to stay with her beloved Priest, or explore a relationship with Wes, her young assistant. Was my question answered to my satisfaction?
The beginning of The Mistress finds Nora held captive by someone with an old grudge against Soren and Kingsley. Many people from the past come to aid them in their quest to find and save Nora as her captor forces her to tell stories to keep them “entertained”. It was so much fun to see and hear from so many of the characters from the past. Some from past books, and some from short stories featured on Tiffany’s website.
There aren’t a LOT of details I can go into without giving away spoilers, but I will say that I got *almost* everything I wanted in this book!

When Angela told me she had signed us up for this tour, not only did I scream, but I wanted to give her an actual virtual hug and kiss. Like Angela said above, "The Mistress" begins right where the "The Prince" ends. This book was written a bit different from the others. You were able to read everyone's point of views except for Soren's. But, through everyone's points of views you were able to learn more about Soren through his actions and how the others viewed him I have to admit, I have always loved Soren, even in "The Siren". I truly believe this book is Tiffany's ode to him. You find out that he has a quirky sense of humor, he is a romantic in an unconventional sort of way (how else can a Priest be romantic), and would face death for the two people he loves the most. I also loved how much Wes had grown from "The Prince" until this book. I was never a Wes fan, so that is a huge step for me.
Angela:
Alexis is so right! I want to add that these relationships build and grow so much from the first book to the last... I know Alexis mentioned not caring for Wes, I have to admit, I didn’t like Kingsley. I thought he was a jealous, arrogant narcissist. Everyone kept saying “Oh, I feel sorry for him”. Me, not so much. But by the end of this book, I kind of loved him. Soren, What can I say about Soren? He was so hard and unyielding in “The Siren”. You were just terrified of him. By “The Angel”, when Nora described him, you start to see a different side of him. In “The Mistress”, you really see Soren as a different person. But not to everyone else. Just to Nora. You see Nora’s Soren. I won’t mention how many times I cried over this relationship in “The Mistress”.
When Nora describes her relationship and is telling her stories, she is really saying “look at this...this is my life...this is who *I* am”. I think it speaks of tolerance of the BDSM/ Homosexual/ménage lifestyle in a way. I really don’t know how you can read this and say it isn’t ok for them, because they are *so* happy with it.
My last side note is this, Tiffany Reisz is a master with word play and symbolism. Some religious some not. Some of it was so deep that Alexis had to point it out to me.
One thing you will need for this book is a reading buddy! You will need emotional support. If you don’t have one, email me and I’ll be there for you. If I could give it more I would, but since I can’t, I’ll stick with FIVE STARS!!

Nora was also fantastic in this book. She is the type of girl who does not take shit from anyone, even people who are out to hurt her. Nora has got to be one of the sassiest heroines I have ever read, ever. I loved the way she taunted MarieLaure, with her stories and wittiness. Kingsley is the one character I have a soft spot for. I am one of “those” people who do feel sorry for him. But, in this book, he does find true happiness in more than one way. Everything else Angela said above I completely agree with 100%. I cannot imagine Nora and Soren’s lifestyle without the BDSM/ménage aspect nor do I want to.
I have to say that Tiffany really knows how to deliver an ending. At first, I was like, “wait, what?”, then I calmed down and thought about it and realized the beauty in it. I wish that this wasn’t the end, but we all have to say good-bye at some point. I am now sitting on pins and needles waiting for the prequel “The Priest”.
This book is definitely a 5++ star read for me.
If you haven’t read any of these books, stop what you are reading and pick up “The Siren” today. I promise you will not be disappointed.

ReplyDeleteI started reading the first book in the series but had a hard time getting into it. After reading this post, I think I am going to have to give it another try! From what I had read, not sure I could pick a team just yet. I will have to read more and decide!
