Those three words cannot be further from that truth for 19 year-old Addison Snow.  After losing her mom when she was a senior in high school, Addison’s life is turned upside down.  Not only did she lose her mom but she lost her best friend and confidante.  Her father does not take his wife’s death well and turns to the bottle.  In and out of rehab several times, her father leaves her in charge of Snow’s Sugary Treats, her mother’s bakery instead of doing something about her own dreams and aspirations.  It’s not until Zander makes a beeline for her heart that she realizes that there is more to life than grief.

“It was like I lost both parents in one day.  It was too much."

Addison is a shell of what she used to be before her mom passed away.  She was in the National Honor Society, and cheerleader, and up for Valedictorian.  Once her mom passed, she immediately stopped cheerleading, and barely graduated.  Instead, she was dealing with her father’s alcoholism and ensuring he didn’t die from alcohol poisoning.  There were some many times throughout the book that my heart just broke for her.   I wanted so desperately for Addison’s father to take some of her pain away, so that she could live like a normal 19-year old. In order for that to happen though,  he would have to get his drinking problem under control.

“If I went through with my plans a year ago, I would have missed out on all of these moments with him.  They are becoming important and special to me, and so is he.”

Zander is exactly what Addison needs in her life.  Personally, I wish there were more Zanders in the world. The way he could take an intense moment and diffuse it with Legos, napkins, or witty banter just warms my heart.   He completely compliments Addison in every way. Did I mention that Zander knows how to “woo” a girl?!  Ah…those napkins, each and every one of them brought the biggest smile to my face.   Together Addison and Zander make perfect sense.

  

“I love you.  I don’t want to be stuck in the past anymore.  I want to finally look forward to the future, and I want to do it with you.  I need you to keep me strong.”

I completely loved this story, to the point that I refused to put this book down!  How can a book give you goosebumps while tears roll down your face?  I would say that it’s the talent of Tara Sivec and her flawless writing.  I felt all of the emotions that that Addison was going through.   If you are looking for a deep, heart-wrenching book then look no further!  This is a definite must read, just keep some tissues nearby!
